Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

To be responsible for the security and maintenance of the whole school site and to ensure the school complies with all current legislations relating to site safety and management. To promote and participate in achieving the most efficient and economic use of the school premises, facilities, plant, equipment and materials.

• To be responsible for all aspects of the school’s facilities management and premises stuff to ensure the cleanliness, safety and security of the school building and ground at all times
• To contribute to school decision regarding facilities management and development
• knowledge of mechanical and electrical system would be beneficial

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• All staff members are required to carry out the duties as set out in the Staff Handbook, which should always be consulted as a changing document. At Arbor, the following areas have been highlighted as being of particular importance to the post holder:

Main duties:

• Monitor all facilities work within the district to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, building and fire codes, and health and safety
• Work with Superintendent and Business Administrators to plan, schedule, and communicate information about ongoing projects throughout the school
• Maintains department budget and expenditures
• Supervises and oversees implementation of all projects related to the school buildings and grounds
• Work with construction managers to maintain safety conditions at all times during renovations
• Assists in the preparation of all bids and quotations for contracted work, equipment, and supplies
• Maintain school plans, manual, and warranties in an organized and accessible manner
• Recommend approval of contracted projects once completed
• Proven skills in leadership, management and team building
• Thorough knowledge of custodial equipment
• Thorough knowledge of applicable Health & Safety standards, rules and regulations
• Assign, supervise, and oversee the safety of maintenance staff, moreover establish and adjust work assignments to meet production schedules
• Proficient in English & Arabic (written and verbal skills)
• Inspect and identify safety/maintenance needs to develop innovative solutions in alignment with the school’s vision
• Direct maintenance staff in cleaning and maintaining assigned areas, develop quality standards for implementation
• Responsible for drafting and reviewing any necessary contracts as well as preparing documentation or presentations on the work being done for the school
• Prepare safety and maintenance reports
• Maintain inventory order equipment and supplies
• Ability to promote efficiency, morale, and teamwork and interaction with fellow staff members.

Health & Safety:

• Ensure the school complies with all current legislation in relation to site safety and facilities management including the maintenance of appropriate records
• Participate in the continuing development of robust, transparent health and safety systems and procedures
• Support health and safety training initiatives and deliver components where appropriate
• Commit to the growth and maintenance of a positive risk management culture within the school
• Actively participate in related committee meetings

Other Duties:

• Demonstrate knowledge or experience of architecture, school constructions, engineering, plant operations, maintenance and management, and schools safety
• Ability to plan, manage, and direct all phases of the facilities operations
• Demonstrate skills in personnel management
• Technology proficient
• Proven ability to interact with all levels of staff and administration
• Oral and written communication skills
• Knowledge of Building systems
• Knowledge of Plumbing systems
• Defines job performance expectations of staff, evaluates job performance, conducts workshops and/or improvement plans to ensure the best operation of the department
• Monitors the use, maintenance, and replacement of capital equipment
• Ensures that maintenance and custodial staff are familiar with procedures in dealing with misconduct/conflicts
• Participates in relevant professional growth experiences which expand knowledge of operating the department
• Performing any reasonable duties as requested by the Principal.

Ultimately, it should be recognized that in a new school, and particularly during pre-opening, all posts must share tasks such as the above. Any post holder should be pro-active and flexible about working in a start up setting

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management or Engineering
• Minimum experience 2-5 Years in Facilities Management
• Bilingual – English & Arabic
• Project Management Skills
• Problem Solving, Conflict Management, and Analytical Skills
• Multi-tasking, Prioritizing, and Time-management skills
• Building Maintenance experience - familiarity with building upkeep, structural issues, and grounds maintenance
• Budgeting skills
• Interpersonal and communication skills
• Leadership skills - ability to guide and motivate employees
• Good physical condition
