Essential job functions & minimum requirements

Role overview
The fire alarm draughtsman will be responsible for producing accurate, compliant, and constructible fire alarm layout and detailed drawings in Abu Dhabi. The role involves close coordination with design engineers, project managers, site teams, and installation teams to ensure all drawings comply with UAE Civil Defence (ADCD) requirements, client specifications, and site conditions.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare and issue AutoCAD drawings for fire alarm systems including general arrangement drawings, floor plans, riser diagrams, system schematics, and cable routing layouts.
  • Develop, update, and maintain as-built and installation drawings based on site surveys and installation progress.
  • Interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawings to coordinate fire alarm device locations, cable containment, and access requirements.
  • Prepare schedules and bills of materials for fire alarm panels, detectors, sounders, manual call points, and associated accessories.
  • Ensure all drawings comply with UAE Civil Defence regulations and relevant international standards (NFPA where applicable).
  • Coordinate with design engineers to implement system revisions, authority comments, and design changes in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with installation and commissioning teams to resolve site queries, clarify technical details, and update drawings accordingly.
  • Support project delivery by issuing drawings for procurement, installation, testing, commissioning, and handover documentation.
  • Maintain proper document control, revision history, and drawing registers in line with company procedures.

Technical skills & tools

  • Proficient in AutoCAD with strong experience in construction and as-built drawings.
  • Good understanding of fire alarm symbols, layers, standards, and CAD best practices.
  • Practical knowledge of fire alarm systems and installation methods used in the UAE market.
  • Experience with drawing revision control and document management systems.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) for schedules, reports, and transmittals.

Experience & qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years experience producing fire alarm or building services drawings, preferably with a contractor, system integrator, or design office.
  • Technical qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or Drafting is preferred.
  • Experience working on commercial, residential, or industrial projects in the UAE is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with UAE Civil Defence approval processes is highly desirable.

  • Based in Abu Dhabi with willingness to attend site visits as required.
  • Valid UAE driving licence is an advantage.
