General Counsel

Job description / Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior legal candidate to throw themselves into a General Counsel role with an interesting breadth of work across different sectors, but with a focus on operations across Iraq

Client Details

Our client is a newly established, but quickly growing, holding company with interests in oil & gas, shipping, banking and trading

Description

* Oversee all legal and contractual activities across the organization.
* Draft and negotiate contracts in English and Arabic.
* Provide legal counsel and guidance on a variety of matters, including regulatory affairs in the UAE, Iraq, and common law jurisdictions.
* Manage M&A transactions.
* Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including EPC contracts, petrochemical contracts, and shipping contracts.
* Establish and implement legal and contractual policies and procedures.
* Set up the legal and contracts department from scratch.

A successful General Counsel should have:

* Extensive experience in legal and contracts management, with a focus on the oil & gas and shipping industries.
* Proven track record in drafting and negotiating complex contracts in English and Arabic.
* Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
* At least 10yrs PQE
* Professional fluency in English and Arabic.
* Knowledge of UAE, GCC, and Iraqi law (Iraqi law is a bonus).
* Strong character with a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
* Solution-oriented and proactive.
