HBU Safety Manager - Middle East & Africa

As a HBU Safety Manager, you will be a part of the Power Grids division which is a global leader in turnkey power projects and will be based in UAE. The power grids division delivers solutions across the power value chain. This includes system solutions for power generation, transmission technologies, substations and distribution technologies for network management.

Your main tasks will be the following:
- Responsible to foster and to implement, a continuous improvement of health, safety and environment proactive and positive culture according to HSE relevant instructions and guidelines, aligned with ABB policy.
- Ensure consistency in the implementation of the HSE directives and guidelines among different business locations/projects. ---Coach people at all levels of the organization with methods and training to realize an exemplary safety culture as part of the total commitment business excellence.
- Support the local units to implement the Project HSE directives and instructions and ensure in all local units the mandatory implementation for HSE systems for site activities, starting from the qualification phase, throughout the bid process (HSE risk assessment and mitigation), contract award, until the finalization of the construction at site and the commissioning / acceptance test.
- Performs regular audit in the local units to verify the adherence in the application of HSE directives.
- Assess functional capability needs and ensure that the HBU has sustainable capacity and competence at required levels in each HSE sub-function and make sure all the project are staffed with HSE people
- Monitors the relevant KPI targets for environment and safety in line with ABB Group set KPI, and review the reports: identifies potential weak areas and fixes the improvement actions. Monitors and reviews progress, suggests correction in order to meet the key performance indicators targets.
- Ensures timely notification of HSE incidents, investigations, preventive and corrective actions and KPIs to ABB Group
- Ensure regular on-site inspections to audit policies and procedures, provides regular audit reports, crisis management plans, and reviews to the Global Product Group Manager.
- Contributes to effective risk management of HSE related issues by providing specialist knowledge and advice on key business decisions to HBU leadership team.
- Ad hoc support in the review of HSE project documentation during risk reviews and project reviews
- Promotes ABB Sustainability culture to our clients, supply chain and employee groups. Share the information to promote the awareness of ABB Group procedures relating to environment, safety, security and safe business traveling
- Establishes, implements and maintains HBU specific risk programs.
- Ensures effectiveness of them at operations. Ensures delivery of training, audit and support for key risk programs are optimized through the respective country shared service centers for the respective Product Group.
- Ensures ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 3rd party certification across operations of HBU

Requirements

Ideally you will have a bachelor's/ master's degree in engineering with a minimum of 10 years of experience in the project business managing HSE matters .Sound experience in managing HSE matters “on site”, with particular focus on electrical safety along with the ability to successfully persuade and influence senior management teams in a highly matrixed environment is required.
