  • Model outstanding teaching and learning, setting high expectations for pedagogy, assessment, and student outcomes.
  • Oversee curriculum development, assessment policies, and data analysis to drive continuous improvement.
  • Support, mentor, and develop teachers within the department through coaching, feedback, and professional development.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative team environment that encourages innovation and reflective practice.
  • Use assessment data effectively to identify areas for improvement and to support personalised learning.
  • Promote a love of Humanities across the school through enrichment, competitions, and co-curricular initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and school leadership to ensure strong progress tracking and reporting.
  • Uphold GEMS Education’s core values and contribute to the wider life of the school through leadership, participation in events, and community engagement.
  • Skills

    Qualifications & knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in Humanities or a closely related field, plus a recognised teaching qualification/licence (PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
  • A deep understanding of the National Curriculum for England and effective teaching methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of data analysis, curriculum planning, and assessment for learning.
  • Skills & attributes

  • Proven leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative and supportive approach.
  • A reflective practitioner committed to continuous improvement and innovation.
  • High expectations for academic standards, student achievement, and behaviour.
  • Ability to foster a positive learning environment that encourages curiosity, independence, and critical thinking.
  • Experience

  • Minimum of five years’ teaching experience in Humanities, including leadership experience within a department or key stage.
  • Experience in an international or British curriculum school is highly desirable.
  • Proven track record of raising standards and achieving excellent student outcomes.
  • GEMS Al Barsha National School is part of the GEMS Education network, offering an exceptional British curriculum education underpinned by UAE values and heritage.
