Head of Financial Controls & VAT

Job description / Role

Top, UAE bank seeking a senior financial controls and VAT specialist. This position would report directly to the CFO and manage both the Financial Controls team and the VAT team so direct experience in both is required.

Our client is a top bank in the UAE with a growing international presence. They are well known in the market for their high retention and stability.

Description

Financial Controls responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Establish and maintain accounting policies for the bank's activities.
* Coordinate internal and external audits.
* Coordinate and contribute to the implementation of new accounting standards.
* Draft and implement appropriate procedures to ensure accurate accounting treatment.
* Implement and maintain the monthly review program to ensure financial controls are in place and appropriate reconciliations, substantiations and attestations are completed.
* Help improve the control environment of the Financial Control unit by monitoring the accounting operations and reporting disciplines.

VAT responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Ensure compliance with local and international indirect tax regulations, implications and treatments
* Provide innovative tax planning and review complex VAT returns
* Assist in the development and implementation of VAT strategies
* Liaise with tax authorities and provide tax audit support for the Group.
* Review current and deferred tax provision
* Identify and mitigate tax risks
* Assessing the impact of changes in tax law and accounting principles on the business

Requirements

Candidates that will be seriously considered for the Head of Financial Controls & VAT role will have the following minimum qualifications:

* Must have the relevant professional qualifications (i.e. ACCA, ACA, etc.)
* 10+ years of direct experience in both GL/Financial Controls and VAT execution/processing & reporting
* Managerial experience required
* Candidates currently based in Dubai or Abu Dhabi preferred, but open to candidates with the relevant experience seriously looking to relocate to Dubai
* Open to considering Big 4 candidates with banking client portfolios
