Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Purpose: Reviews, evaluates, and analyzes work environments and design programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, and biological agents or ergonomic factors. May conduct inspections and enforce adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals.

Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Provide an authoritative advisory service, relevant reports and analysis of data and trends to senior management and staff on a broad range of contemporary workplace health & safety and risk management issues and opportunities for improvement.
- Establish and maintain policies and procedures, programs and systems in relation to workplace health & safety issues ensuring compliance with all UAE and International legislative requirements.
- Coordinate the delivery of appropriate workplace health & safety induction and training programs for staff and students.
- Coordinate workplace inspections and audits and develop strategies to ensure compliance with relevant legislative provisions and departmental risk management procedures.
- Develop and monitor the effectiveness of, emergency procedures for all areas of the Institute.
- Monitor the recording and investigation of injuries and incidents and work with FCHS senior management to develop and oversee implementation of solutions to identified risks.
- Liaise with institute staff and external service providers in the management of issues affecting health and safety including disability access issues.
- Promote a positive culture of workplace health and safety through appropriate marketing to Institute staff and students
- Order suspension of activities that pose threats to workers' health and safety.
- Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
- Investigate accidents to identify causes and to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future.
- Investigate the adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting, and other conditions that could affect employee health, comfort, or performance.
- Develop and maintain hygiene programs such as noise surveys, continuous atmosphere monitoring, ventilation surveys, and asbestos management plans.
- Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices, in order to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
- Collaborate with all staff to institute control and remedial measures for hazardous and potentially hazardous conditions or equipment.
- Conduct safety training and education programs, and demonstrate the use of safety equipment.
- Provide new-employee health and safety orientations, and develop materials for these presentations.

Requirements

- Bachelor/Master degree in Environmental Health or Related Field - Accredited from a Professional and Internationally Recognized Body
- Minimum five years of relevant experience in the field of health and Safety

Knowledge of:
- UAE Health and Safety Legislation
- Work-related illnesses and injuries, and rehabilitation strategies
- Awareness of the accreditation standards from the perspectives of Health and Safety policies and procedures.
