Job description / Role

HSE Safety Officer (Marine) – Shore Based

Key Responsibilities & Duties
• Carry out regular vessel visits to ensure compliance with company and statutory HSE requirements
• Conduct crew safety training, toolbox talks, seminars, and workshops onboard vessels
• Attend and monitor shipboard emergency drills, providing feedback and recommendations for improvement
• Perform onboard safety inspections and audits to identify hazards, non-conformities, and improvement areas
• Verify implementation of Safety Management System (SMS) onboard vessels
• Monitor compliance with international regulations, industry best practices, and company policies
• Review and assess:
o Risk assessments
o Permit-to-work systems
o Safety procedures and records
• Assist vessels in preparation for:
o Vetting inspections
o Port State Control (PSC) inspections
o Internal and external audits
• Prepare and submit inspection reports, observations, and corrective action follow-ups
• Promote a strong safety culture across the fleet

Qualifications & Work Experience Requirements
• Certificate of Competency (CoC): Chief Officer / Second Officer
• Minimum 2 years of sailing experience in an officer rank
• Prior experience onboard oil tankers with strong knowledge of tanker operations
• Sound knowledge of:
o ISM Code
o ISPS Code
o SOLAS
o MARPOL
o TMSA
o OCIMF requirements
• Strong understanding of shipboard operations and seamanship
• Thorough knowledge of shipboard safety equipment and systems, including maintenance requirements
• Proven crew training and coaching skills
