Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

The Health and Safety Manager is responsible for planning, implementing and overseeing company’s safety at work. You must ensure that the company is in compliant and adhering to safety requirements and guidelines.

Key Accountabilities:
• Formulate policies and procedures and enforce compliance.
• You should implement health and safety procedures and ensure that these comply with the law.
• Ensure they are rolled out in full across all schools, including but not limited too buses, emergency drills, parking, disaster managements, canteen compliance
• Conduct risk assessments. These highlight the areas of potential risk that you must reduce.
• Train all employees in your health and safety procedures.
• You should also give proper training on the particular risks in their area of work, and how they can prevent these.
• Conduct frequent safety inspections and checks.
• This is especially important for things like electrical equipment and equipment used for working at height.
• Understand the importance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• You should make all employees aware of the benefits of PPE and ensure that they receive adequate PPE.
• You should also frequently check PPE for wear and tear.
• Equipment must be effective in the event of an accident.
• Develop a correct procedure for reporting accidents.
• You must make all employees aware of the correct reporting procedure
• Respond to any safety complaints and concerns raised by employees.
• You should investigate their claims and put plans in place to remove the danger.
• Take responsibility for first aid procedures, including employee first aid training.
• Manage emergency procedures, ensuring they are fully in place in all schools, such as fire alarm drills.
• Lead by example.
• You must show employees that you take your health and safety manager responsibilities seriously, instill a positive health and safety culture.

Requirements

Education:
• Bachelor Degree or Industry Related qualification at similar level. Valid up to date qualifications.

Experience:
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in similar role (e.g. health and safety manager, safety officer) ideally in an Educational Institution or related service provider Industry.

Competencies:
• operations management and compliance experience, working with regulatory bodies, data analysis and risk assessment, strategic planning and business development, strong IT skills and logistics.

Attributes:
• Outstanding interpersonal skills and communication skills.
• Ability to problem solve and support with health and safety compliance.
• Visionary in terms of the development of systems and structures yet attention to detail on day to day operational tasks.
