Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

E&W station is a combination of 8XST+ 2XGT in power station and 11 desalination plant in water station. This station had been commissioned on phases starting from 1980’s and nearing its end of life. Instrument technician will be responsible to maintain instrumentation and control equipment in E&W station.

Area of responsibility:

The Instrument Technician is responsible for:
• Maintaining E&W station Instrument equipment and control system in terms of short and long time scheduling.
• Maintaining / Developing PM / PDM schedule of concerned equipment.
• Be familiar with strategic spares of the section and maintain minimum stock level.
• Report for major maintenance activities and coordinating with Supervisor, lead Engineer to order the required spares.
• Trouble shooting and root cause analysis of failed equipment.
• Maintaining technical / HSE international standards in performing the tasks at workplace.
• Follow the company Safety rules.

Principal functions:

The Instrument maintenance engineer Technician will have following major activities:
• Trouble shooting, maintenance of SKODA Steam Turbine Control System.
• BBC GT DCS/P14 Control System.
• Trouble shooting, maintenance of Boiler Babcock (Siemens/BBC) Control System.
• Babcock Aux. Boiler BBC/H&B Control System.
• ST and GT main and auxiliary’s maintenance.
• Troubleshooting and maintenance of all types of instruments related to Distillers and Pumps.
• Understanding plant units wiring diagrams, field equipment, relay rooms, Interlock signals and attending the required protection tests.
• Coordinate with supervisors/Engineer to order spares in time to maintain minimum stock level.
• Routine maintenance of gas turbines, Steam turbine and related common systems.
• Prepare and maintain records / history of maintenance activities.
• Coordinate with Instrument Engineer and Lead Instrument Maintenance Engineer to review and re-evaluate the staff qualification (PQR) system of the Instrument maintenance section.
• Coordinate with Instrument engineer to review the technical requirements and procedures of Instrument functions and develop On the Job Training (OJT) programs to ensure effective skill development of UAE national trainees.
• Setting standards for plant maintenance, utilizing technical advice available both internally and externally and ensuring that standards are effectively communicated;
• Assisting in the preparation of a budget and providing regular reports of expenditure, explaining variances, identifying potential risks and/or problems and recommending solutions;
• Ensuring all procedures, documentation, drawings and manuals are kept up to date and any additional training is completed in a timely manner;
• Delivering high levels of commercial availability, safely and efficiently within environment limits whilst maintaining high standards of management and leadership;
• Delivering outcomes in all areas of work that are consistent with the Safety, Quality, Health and Environmental policies;
• Involves working with other departments within an organization such as purchasing, sales, marketing and manufacturing to ensure the Instrument product or equipment is completed in accordance to the organization's quality standards in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Requirements

Experience:
• 8 years’ experience in maintenance of Instrument plants and equipment with at least 4 years in large power station.
• Hands-on experience on specified area of concerns, ie. ST, GT, Boiler, Aux Boiler, Distiller, pumps, BOPs.
• Work on CMMS, experience on Middle East is a plus.

Qualifications:

Education:
• Bachelor/ Diploma in Electronic / Instrument and control Engineering

Competencies:
• Sound technical knowledge of the maintenance of Instrument equipment and systems of steam turbine/ open cycle power plants, which allow him to rapidly identify potential technical issues on site during the execution, to investigate and discuss those issues with his team.
• Excellent inter-personal, communication and report writing skill.
• Must be able to work independently and to bridge cultural differences.
• Ability to coordinate and direct and influence others. He should show capability of leadership.

Reporting Line:
• Direct : Instrument Engineer
• Indirect : Instrument Lead Engineer

Supervisory Responsibility:
• Direct : Supervisors
• Indirect : Technicians

Physical Effort:
• 70% while supervising important work, risk work, modification work etc.

Work Environment:
• 30% in A/C office work.
• 70% working in field.
• Regularly called out after working hours.

Languages
• Good knowledge of written and spoken English.

Technology
• Able to work in an IT environment.

Other
• Ability to work efficiently in a broad cultural spectrum.
