Employment: Full Time

This is an opportunity to join the team of a new, premium, full age-range school in Dubai which will open in August 2018. Operating to the English curriculum, the school will have, as its core philosophy, an emphasis on ecological education, education for sustainability and inclusion. The facilities shall be outstanding, and include bio-domes, learning gardens and extensive provision for both sports and the arts.

We therefore seek exceptionally hard working and motivated teachers, who view a founding school as an opportunity to take an important role in shaping a truly outstanding education. Starting in the primary phase, we are looking to recruit teachers who are willing to go that extra mile, and who can form excellent relationships with colleagues, parents and students. All our staff shall play a key role in fulfilling the school’s mission in ensuring that The Arbor School fosters a positive, caring and compassionate learning environment, which is anchored by a deep sense of environmental justice and sustainability.

Supported by an experienced management team, the applicants will provide vision and leadership to the learning community and support a wide range of abilities with the help of on-site scientific, linguistic and learning support/intervention expertise. Opportunities to take further responsibilities across the whole school are also available and can be negotiated at interview.

All teachers are expected to take a full and active role in wider school life, as well as assisting to grow and develop the school as necessary. The core expectations are as follows:
• Being responsible for the excellent progress and achievement of pupils.
• Carrying out such other associated duties as are reasonably assigned by the Head of Arabic & Islamic Studies
• Being responsible to the HoAI for his/her teaching duties and responsibilities and for teaching tasks and may be responsible for the supervision of the work of classroom assistants relevant to his/her responsibilities.
• Interacting on a professional level with colleagues and seeking to establish and maintain productive relationships with them and promoting mutual understanding of the school curriculum with the aim of improving the quality of teaching and learning in the school.

Teaching
• Being a positive role model in terms of behaviour, work and attitudes
• Cultivating and promoting love for Islam and Islamic values within pupils
• Taking responsibility for the progress of pupils in Arabic, across the school
• Teaching, according to their educational needs and the school’s and KHDA’s Islamic curriculum, the pupils assigned to them, including the setting and marking of work to be carried out by the pupil at school or elsewhere
• Setting clear targets and goals for teaching the Islamic values on a weekly basis and working with staff to extend the implementation with in the classroom environment
• Organising extra-curricular activities related to the Islamic events and holidays.
• Planning for progression across the age and ability range you teach, designing effective lessons/programmes of work in accordance with the needs of individual learners
• Teaching challenging, well organised lessons, using an appropriate range of teaching strategies which meet individual learners’ needs
• Using an appropriate range of observation, assessment, monitoring and recording strategies as a basis for setting challenging learning objectives and monitoring learners’ progress and levels of attainment
• Providing timely, accurate and constructive feedback on learners’ attainment, progress and areas for development
• Advising and working collaboratively with the Head of Arabic & Islamic and others on the preparation and development of teaching materials, teaching programmes, methods of teaching and assessment and pastoral arrangements as appropriate
• Provide robust subject leadership for the teaching of Islamic Studies at the school, in association with and supporting colleagues in the delivery of this area
• Coordinating activities and resources within a specific area of the curriculum and supporting colleagues in the delivery of this specialist area.
• Flexibility in teaching Islamic B, Arabic B and Social Studies classes

Requirements

Required Candidate profile:
• University Degree or Higher Diploma in Islamic Studies, Sharea’a, or similar
• Qualified Teacher Status / Teaching Qualification
• KHDA approval is a plus
• Good spoken English language
• Minimum of 3 years teaching experience
• Possesses correct Arabic pronunciation and has a basic understanding of rules for the authentic recitation of the Quran
• Has excellent knowledge of Islamic Subjects and believes and acts according to the Islamic values taught to the children
• A successful track record in teaching and learning and an ability to create a caring and nurturing classroom environment
• An appreciation for environmental sustainability and of values-based education
• A sense of humour and excellent work ethic.
