The Dubai Design Academy (DDA), a wholly owned subsidiary of DMCC, aims to be the leading jewellery education provider in the Middle East and help position Dubai as the world’s leading centre for innovation in jewellery designing and manufacturing. DDA aims to develop aspiring and existing jewellery designers as well as design focused students and entrepreneurs and provide them access to the knowledge and tools to be world class designers and jewellery business professionals.

The Jewellery Design Instructor (JDI) shall teach students how to develop and digitally design, jewellery using the latest jewellery software programs and manufacturing techniques to enable students to become world class designers. The JDI is crucial to the building of the academic curriculum and program and is required to not only have a base of knowledge to help devise the course contents but also research about the latest and relevant practices and developments in the industry to ensure the DDA teaches the latest jewellery design principles and techniques.

Research
• Foster the research of leading jewellery design principles and thereby build a well thought and leading jewellery design education program.
• Understand and identify market trends in Jewelry and fashion; Provide guidance and assistance to more junior staff in developing their capacity for teaching and research
• Introduce students and colleagues to useful networks within the jewellery industry and overall design/fashion industries
• Seek continuous improvement in academic standards of the DDA

Teaching
• Instruct and supervise students on CAD CAM programs such as Matrix and Rhino (and other 3D software) along with associated tools and equipment such as jewellery professional tools, 3D printers, school software and other related program and applications.
• Help students prepare for national and/or international events and competitions
• Participate in meetings, training and ongoing professional development, as needed, concerning course material, instructional content, student feedback, operational and administrative procedures, etc.
• Monitor industry best practices, recommend new design approaches and identify upcoming trends, new segments, and specific business opportunities

DDA Ambassador
• Set and promote the image of DDA as a leading authority in jewellery design by demonstrating expertise and understanding of the markets
• Build partnership and networks with industry stakeholders to create a broader coalition of brand ambassadors or representatives that will understand and communicate DDA’s vision
• Communicate with industry stakeholders and be recognized as an expert in the field

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

• Bachelor's degree (B. A. or B. S.) and/or five years related practical jewelry industry experience preferred
• GIA certified in one/more off: Jewellery Manufacturing Arts (JMA); Jewelry Design & Technology (JDT), Jewellery Design Certificate, GIA Comprehensive
• CAD/CAM Certificate, Graduate Jeweller (GJ) and/or Graduate Gemologist (GG)
• Certification in teaching Matrix-8
• Jewelry Design: 5 years
• Gemvision Matrix: 2 years
• Rhino 3D: 2 years
• Skills in other computer rendering software including V-ray, Keyshot, Illustrator, and Sketchbook Pro is preferred
• Expert knowledge and working ability in CAD/CAM
• Experience working in the Middle East and Arabic language skills
• Must have demonstrated teaching excellence, and an ability to communicate and work effectively with students, faculty and administrators
• A minimum of three years of teaching experience, or the equivalent, is preferred
• Basic knowledge of jewelry manufacturing in order to help successfully translate sketches and designs into functional CAD documents
• Knowledge of gemstones and their uses; to include stone species, setting techniques and best practices.
