Junior Sous Chef

As a Junior Sous Chef you will be in charge of Kitchen operations and ensure that all outlet reports, schedules, standard recipes, menus, food presentation and correspondence are completed in liaison with the Executive Chef.

What you will be doing:

- Assisting the Executive Chef: As a Junior Sous Chef, you will work closely with the Executive Chef, providing support and assisting them in various tasks. This may involve coordinating kitchen operations, supervising staff, and ensuring smooth workflow.
- Food Preparation: Junior Sous Chefs are responsible for preparing and cooking food. You will need to have a strong understanding of culinary techniques, ingredients, and flavor profiles. You may be involved in prepping ingredients, executing recipes, and plating dishes.
- Menu Development: Junior Sous Chefs often collaborate with the Sous Chef/ Executive Chef and the culinary team in developing menus. This may include suggesting new dishes, creating specials, and ensuring variety and creativity in the menu offerings.
- Supervising Kitchen Staff: In the absence of the Sous Chef, the Junior Sous Chef may be responsible for overseeing the kitchen staff. This includes providing guidance, training, and feedback to the team, as well as ensuring adherence to food safety and sanitation standards.
- Maintaining Quality and Standards: Junior Sous Chefs play a crucial role in maintaining the quality and consistency of dishes. This involves conducting quality checks, monitoring portion sizes, and ensuring that food is prepared and presented according to established standards.
- Inventory and Ordering: Junior Sous Chefs may be involved in inventory management, including monitoring stock levels, conducting inventory counts, and placing orders for ingredients and supplies as needed.
- Kitchen Organization: Maintaining a clean and organized kitchen is essential. Junior Sous Chefs are responsible for overseeing the cleanliness and hygiene of the kitchen area, as well as the proper storage and rotation of ingredients.
- Assisting in Cost Control: Junior Sous Chefs may be involved in controlling food costs by minimizing waste, ensuring accurate portioning, and utilizing ingredients effectively. This may involve monitoring food usage and suggesting strategies to optimize cost efficiency.
- Adhering to Safety and Sanitation : Junior Sous Chefs must adhere to health and safety regulations and ensure that the kitchen operates in accordance with food handling and sanitation guidelines. This includes maintaining cleanliness, proper storage, and safe food handling practices.
- Continuous Learning: Junior Sous Chefs should stay updated on culinary trends, techniques, and industry developments. They may participate in training programs, workshops, or research to enhance their skills and knowledge.

Your experience and skills include:

- Culinary Expertise- should have excellent culinary skills and have strong understanding of various cooking techniques, food preparation, and presentation.

- Constant standing and walking throughout shift

- Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps
