Responsibilities

Project Execution

  • Technical and commercial responsibility for execution of the assigned project(s). Delivery of the assigned project(s) safely, on schedule, and within the allocated budget.
  • Organize the project team, define individual responsibilities, and motivate team members towards successful achievement of specified project goals, particularly through regular project meetings.
  • Identify and communicate project team objectives in accordance with the contract terms, scope of work, and corporate policy.
  • Delegate work to the project team members in a manner that encourages individual responsibility.
  • Provide leadership and management to ensure safe, cost-effective, and timely resolution of all interfaces.
  • Develop and maintain effective working practices for the project team.
  • Oversee all critical developments of project master schedule, including establishment of milestones and phasing. Contributes to and reviews project proposals and plans to determine timeframe, procedures for accomplishing the project, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of the project.
  • Establish project procedures and lead preparation of project execution plan including the scope of work, deliverables list, master schedule, budget, org charts, risk register, etc.
  • Development of delivery strategy, WBS, and review of the completed CTRs. Establishing work orders WBS structure and alignment of proposals & CTR development with an emphasis on scope development.
  • Coordinate site supervision work, manage various contractors, and monitor progress of work.
  • Keep the project sponsor/customer and other stakeholders informed about project status and issues that may impact customer relations, flagging early signs of schedule or budget slippage in order to agree on corrective actions.
  • Lead ongoing focus on risk identification and mitigation during project execution.
  • Anticipate and take proactive action to address potential conflict situations that may impact project delivery. Resolve conflicts, challenges, and problems related to a large multicultural and multi-discipline workforce.
  • Guide and direct a multidiscipline project team, which will include external specialists and may involve staff from multiple offices and sites.
  • Pursue and develop opportunities for innovation, such as digitalization and technology, to bring value to Wood and the customer.
  • Participate in project assurance activities and peer reviews.
  • Participation in design review, 3D model reviews, value engineering, risk management workshops, constructability reviews, PHSERs, IPR, etc.
  • Ensure timely delivery of technical evaluation of bids, issue bid technical clarifications, technical evaluation reports, and recommendations.
  • Create work share plan.

HSE, Quality, and Assurance

  • Check compliance with project quality system; able to audit projects; proactively drive the team.
  • Ensure health, safety, environment, and security (HSES) reviews are planned and implemented; support initiatives.
  • Manage the development of project-specific procedures.
  • Responsible for assuring quality of engineering deliverables before issue to customer.

Development and Management of Schedule

  • Create and implement work plan for discipline and inter-discipline interfaces; identify key dates, milestones, and deliverables, drive for completion; manage forecasts.
  • Resolve escalated delays and changes, ensure recovery plans are implemented and reviewed.

Design Verification

  • Drive and participate in design verification; drive others to complete; understand risk and mitigation requirements.

Change Management

  • Use knowledge of conditions of contract to support decisions on schedules, key milestones, and change management.
  • Understand customer needs and able to deliver customer satisfaction; actively monitor and support initiatives.
  • Quantify effects of change project-wide; develop mitigation plans against change and drive change management.
  • Negotiate changes to project scope or specification with the customer. Follow change management process to identify and approve modifications to scope, cost, schedule, and quality.
  • Ensure that no work is performed without the correct approvals.

People Management

  • Coordinate, guide, and mentor other project engineers in the management of work scope.
  • Supervise work of technical professionals in the delivery of project deliverables including checking work.
  • Coordinate and manage inputs from large interdisciplinary team (typically 50+).
  • Provide communication to project team; good at public speaking; strong in leading people to participate and contribute.

Working Relationships

Internal:

  • Daily interaction with project team members and leadership.
  • Closely liaise with workshare centers.
  • Regularly interface with operational and functional leadership.
  • Maintain effective communication with all relevant parties including client, department management, partners, and project leadership team to manage resolution of areas of concern, lessons learned, and continuous improvement strategies for assigned project scope.

External:

  • Lead project interface between the Wood and client teams for assigned projects.

Level of Influence and Decision Making Authority

  • Work is performed under minimal supervision and general direction and is reviewed for conformance with policies and general efficiency.
  • Actions and decisions typically have a significant influence on the medium-term technical and financial results of a project.
  • Assistance is provided with unusual situations that do not have clear goals.
  • Keep manager informed of progress, potentially controversial matters, or far-reaching implications.
  • Supervise and coordinate work of a large group of engineers and other technical staff.
  • Provide coaching in problem-solving, creative thinking, and project planning skills to less experienced staff.
  • Regularly provide functional supervision, i.e., assist, train, review work of less experienced project engineers.
  • Responsible for accuracy and timelines of work produced by assigned team.

Qualification and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in any engineering discipline.
  • 15+ years experience, the majority being in the oil and gas sector.
  • Demonstrable ability to manage EPC and/or EPCM contracts for greenfield and brownfield oil & gas projects for major oil & gas companies.
  • Incumbents typically require significant (15 years+) broad relevant industry project execution experience, preferably with construction site experience.
  • Specific experience in the Middle East for renowned clients is preferred.
  • Deep understanding of technical work scopes and commercial aspects of projects.
  • Able to use conditions of contract to support decisions on schedules, key milestones, and change management.
  • Good working and application knowledge of specifications and standards.
  • Extensive experience in delivering to internal customers, including other engineering disciplines.
  • Familiar with change management practices and able to robustly manage change.
  • Has expert knowledge of standards, procedures, and work practices; follows project execution flow chart; developing skills in project and technical execution.
  • Able to lead project engineering team; able to manage between discipline groups.
  • Good communicator in leading work effort; motivates team; strong positive and active in solutions and proactive attitude.
  • Competent at managing technical matters and interfaces with third parties.
  • Able to manage and enhance performance and build effective teams.
