Job Description

The Department of Surgery, College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS), UAE University (UAEU), seeks a candidate for a Faculty position at the rank of Lecturer/Assistant Professor in the discipline of Orthopedic Surgery.

The appointee will be involved in the co-ordination of clinical training and assessments of undergraduate medical students with participation in teaching activities including clinical skills (purpose built Simulation Center) for 3rd and 4th year students in the Preclinical Course and hospital based 5th and 6th year students in Junior and Senior Surgical clerkships respectively.

In addition, clinical activity will require a commitment the American Committee for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited training of Residents program in General Surgery in a unique single, multiple site program, preparing candidates for the Arab Board of Medical Specializations, and Intercollegiate MRCS examinations conducted in the UAE.
The Department hosted the inaugural overseas Joint Surgical Colleges Fellowship Examination (JSCFE) in November 2013.

Appointee will engage in acute care and elective surgical practice, conducted in one, or both, teaching facilities managed by the Health Authorities of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. At Al Ain Hospital an entirely new hospital is now under construction, Tawam Hospital being managed in collaboration Johns Hopkins Medicine International.

Interest and involvement in research endeavors within the CMHS, which has a strong basic science faculty, and in collaboration with hospital based clinical colleagues, is anticipated. The College operates an integrated/problem based learning curriculum, the UAE University and other funding bodies provide research opportunities in the new medical school complex.

Requirements

Minimum Qualification

Candidates must have higher professional recognition, evidence of experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and hold certification/fellowship (or equivalent) in North America, Australasia, Europe or South Africa.

Preferred Qualification

Fellowship of one of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons in the UK, American or South African is preferred.
