Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Support the business by assisting with various legal and key strategic matters across flydubai's operations and network with particular focus on the regulatory and disputes portfolio. The role will encompass contract interpretation, drafting, negotiation, regulatory review and advice, data protection, handling insured and uninsured passenger and cargo claims, general commercial claims as well as providing advice to the business on risk management, drafting policies and keeping up-to-date with global legislation which will directly or indirectly affect the company.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Key Activities

- Responsible for reviewing key regulatory issues affecting the business and ensuring the business is up to date in respect of their regulatory requirements by taking a proactive approach with little oversight from senior legal team members.
- Managing a wide case load of disputes (criminal and civil) at all stages including both insured and uninsured matters. Also responsible for assisting the general complaints department with pragmatic solutions to day to day problems which may involve a more commercial rather than legal response.
- Advise and provide general legal support to Legal Affairs Senior Specialist and internal Clients on all aspects of liability and litigation work which arises across all business groups, outstations and at Head Office based in Dubai, including handling relationships with relevant external authorities (Police Authorities, Courts, Consumer Authorities, etc.).
- The role also involves reviewing, drafting and negotiation of various agreements, documents, and transactions (including specialist agreements, submissions to the Courts, legal waivers and settlement agreements) as well as a degree of supervising work undertaken by junior team members
- To work quickly and accurately and be able to prioritize urgent matters appropriately
- Willing to problem-solve, work outside previous areas of expertise and go the extra mile when confronted with challenging situations.
- Building strong relationships with local counsel as well as internal clients of various nationalities, undertaking their needs and business operations.
- Ensure all correspondence and documentation accurately complies with company policy and reflects the company's view and maintain accurate electronic and paper files of the same.
- Familiarity and ability to identify regulations, legislation and industry standard practices.
- Organizational Responsibility: identify organizational needs.
- Detail orientated with strong drafting and negotiating skills
- Commercial understanding and approach to the implementation of legal principles.
- Assess and advise on liabilities, legal restrictions and risks of proposed transactions and devise practical legal solutions to meet the commercial needs under the direction of senior team members
- Researching and providing advice on points of law.
- Provide training and guidance to others in the team.
- Any other work assigned by senior team members.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE/ KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS

Minimum Qualification

- University Degree in Law or equivalent or a Professional Diploma
- Common OR civil law trained (as may be required) and admitted to practice

Experience

- 1-3 years post-graduation experience from a recognizable university with excellent academic results.
- Must have a minimum of 2 years of private practice experience (with a reputable law firm)
- Experience in aviation law is preferred
- Previous in-house legal experience beneficial but not essential.
- Experience in the GCC beneficial but not essential.
- Must have prior experience in regulatory and drafting, experience in litigation/disputes is preferred.

Knowledge / Skills

- Excellent PC skills and proficient in use of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Excellent English language drafting skills.
- Excellent English fluency, excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Arabic knowledge an advantage, but not essential.

Certificate / License required

- Law degree and Qualification certificate.
- Practising certificate or equivalent.
