Job description / Role
Job profile
- Supports in the development, coordination, and support of curriculum, instruction, and assessment for ELL students and literacy in grades 1-5.
- Supports and liaises closely with content teachers.
Specific responsibilities
- Schedule and administer WIDA tests in collaboration with Assistant Director of EAL & Literacy and Assessment Manager.
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum of four (4) years successful EAL and/or literacy teaching experience required; master's degree preferred.
- Experience with co-planning, co-teaching, and intervention programming.
- Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of ELL students in grades 1-5.
- Develop ILPs and interventions to improve literacy for supported learners in grades 1-5.
- Provide thorough and timely reports, data, and information to relevant stakeholders for students on his/her caseload.
- Support the planning, coordinating, developing, and monitoring of ELL support structures in grades 1-5 including:
- Collaborating with general education teachers to ensure that general education classroom environments and learning experiences support ELLs.
- Identifying English Language Development objectives for students and monitoring student progress on these objectives.
- Developing and supporting policies and procedures that guide the learning process toward ELL students' achievement of curriculum goals alongside English Language Development.
- Ensuring that the curriculum is supported with well differentiated planning of lessons.
- Co-teaching, employing effective ELL instructional methods and materials to support student learning.
- Co-planning with teachers to support the use of effective instructional methods and materials.
- Developing and facilitating intervention programming for ELL students.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings, ILP meetings, and any other meetings pertaining to students on his/her caseload.
- Co-plan and deliver training for teaching staff on ELL and literacy strategies.
- Maintain confidential records on all referred students and student/parent contacts in accordance with UAE law, MOE/KHDA regulations, GEMS policy, and the procedure of the school.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.
Skills
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum of four (4) years successful EAL and/or literacy teaching experience required; master's degree preferred.
