Managing Director, MENA

Acts as Managing Director of Gates Middle East & North Africa (MENA) with full P & L and asset management responsibility for the company. Responsible for preparation of operating budgets and strategic plans; maintenance of monitoring systems to assure plans are met; implementation of action plans, selection, assignment and development of personnel; direction of all line and staff operations; establishment and maintenance of all business systems and controls; good relations with government and community; compliance with policy and directives of shareholders; timely and accurate reporting on all activity.

General management responsibility over all operations of Gates Middle East & North Africa (MENA). Has decision-making authority for the company within corporate guidelines and policies. Responsibility to establish business plans and budgets for a $45 - $50 million / year sales company and for action plans assuring that all agreed-upon plans, budgets and objectives are met. Authorization of Capital and Major Item purchases (note final authorization via head office). Authorization and signatory of purchase orders. Authorization of downgrading, rework or rejection of products.

Assists if required with interviewing, and orientation of new employees. Assist in the negotiations with Customers / Suppliers on areas of quality, price, delivery and technical aspects if required. Negotiate with relevant Government Departments. Act as mediator in disputes. An active member of the EMEA Leadership Team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned beyond the core functions listed below.)
- Directs and supervises overall operations of company to ensure sales budgets, trading profit and expense control are achieved.
- Thoroughly understands local market conditions, competitive strengths and weaknesses, corporate marketing, technical and overall product capabilities. Provides guidance and leadership and fosters environment where all elements well understood by all management team.
- Establishes and maintains systems and controls throughout the organization.
- Develops and follows strategic plans.
- Assures that all reporting requirements are met on time. Establishes, implements and executes effective corrective action plans as needed.
- Maintains excellent company image and community relations and instils in management and employees a sense of pride, involvement and commitment.
- Actively supports and practices the principles of Gates Quality Commitment. Continually analyses and implements improvements to job functions.
- Develops, presents and implements marketing plans and programs which will establish Gates MENA products and services at a premium price, leading recommendations made to management which will maintain and grow Gates market share.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervisory responsibility for Gates MENA Leadership team

Requirements

- Gates experience or relevant outside experience, preferably in general management (or equivalent)
- 5 – 10 years senior management experience in the Middle East
- Successful business experience with an emphasis and exposure previously to sales / business development
- College Degree (ideally Engineering); Advanced degree (MBA) desirable

- Leadership qualities with outstanding communication skills-verbal and written
- A demonstrated ability to meet business targets
- Robust, and flexible with the ability to react quickly to shifting priorities and deadlines
- Good judgment and common sense essential
- Role model in terms of conduct and style for management team and employees
- Good strategic mind, promptness, reliability, and integrity are essential
- Superior administrative and organizational skills
- Demonstrable track record of general management across the Middle East preferably within the Oil & Gas markets

Other (travel, working conditions unusual work schedules)

Expected and required to work rigorous work hours. Heavy demand on commitments with internal and external contacts outside regular hours. 25 – 35% travel. Needs to be prepared to make holiday and vacation sacrifices to meet professional obligations.
