Our client is a leading global Design, Project & Construction Management and Master Planning Consultancy firm that work across major projects across the Middle East and North Africa markets. Our client now seeks to appoint a Managing Director to their Planning, Urban Design & Landscape Architecture division in Abu Dhabi to develop and implement business strategy and direction to drive sustainable business growth. The Master Planning and Design Team are based across Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Qatar.

Reporting to the CEO and as a member of the Executive Leadership Committee and managing a master planning team of 60 staff, this role is responsible to:

• Maintain final responsibility for full Profit and Loss responsibility for the division.
• Establish a positive work environment and culture in line with company culture.
• Ensure that project delivery follows international “best practice” standards of the industry, complies with all corporate and divisional quality policies, meets contracted terms and conditions, and achieves the highest professional and quality standards.
• Lead and mentor senior staff.
• Lead client management activities and exercise Principal-In-Charge functions.
• Liaison with Human Resources on staff resource levels, organizational structure, staff deployments, recruitment and selections and staff remuneration adjustments.
• Possess a keen eye for design and detail, and the ability to inspire and lead project teams in developing and maintaining consistently high standards of planning and design aesthetic across a varied portfolio of projects.
• Analyze markets and develop credible operational and marketing strategies.
• Possess a high degree of knowledge and understanding of statutory and commercial frameworks with the ability to analyze and interpret financial data, prepare and control budgets, and manage contracts and invoices.

Requirements

The attributes we seek include:

• Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning or Urban Design from an accredited University or College program is a minimum. Masters or post-graduate credentials highly regarded.
• Minimum twenty (20+) years of continuous experience with international class design firms. International experience in North America, Europe, Middle East and Asia is preferred.
• Possess professional registration, licensure or chartership with an internationally recognized professional association in urban planning, urban design or landscape architecture such as AICP, RTPI, ASLA or CMLI.
• Demonstrate track record leading a large multi-disciplinary practice with a proven ability to plan, prioritize, and motivate multiple teams, delivering multiple projects simultaneously.
• Demonstrated expertise understanding of production techniques and procedures, as well as industry codes / standards/ health and safety requirements and sustainability regulations.
• Possess excellent communication and time management skills in order to coordinate with other divisions and disciplines, and to liaise successfully with clients.
• Demonstrated skills and expertise in designing urban planning, urban design and landscape architectural projects in extreme environmental and arid conditions.
• Possess high-impact presentation skills and highly effective negotiation skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to own and team’s professional development.
• Fluency in English, verbal and written. Proficiency in other languages, especially Arabic, is highly regarded
• Candidates must be able to demonstrates a strategic approach to team delivery.
