Job description / Role
Job Overview:
GFM is seeking a passionate and experienced Mandarin-speaking ELL Teacher to support students whose first language is Mandarin, helping them develop their English language skills while ensuring a smooth transition into an English-speaking academic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
ELL Instruction & Support:
- Plan and deliver targeted English language instruction for Mandarin-speaking students at different proficiency levels.
- Develop and implement individualized learning plans (ILPs) to support student progress in English language acquisition.
- Provide in-class and small-group support to enhance students' reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.
Curriculum Development & Adaptation:
- Use differentiated teaching strategies to meet the linguistic and academic needs of ELL students.
- Develop engaging lessons that integrate Mandarin-to-English language transition strategies while aligning with the British curriculum.
- Assess and monitor student progress, providing feedback and adjustments to instruction as needed.
Student Integration & Well-being:
- Support students in developing confidence in English communication across subjects.
- Encourage cultural appreciation and inclusivity within the classroom and broader school environment.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to adapt content and materials to support ELL students' understanding.
Parental Engagement & Communication:
- Act as a liaison between the school and Mandarin-speaking parents, ensuring clear communication regarding student progress and school expectations.
- Provide guidance and resources to parents on how to support English language development at home.
Professional Development & Collaboration:
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development in ELL strategies and language acquisition methodologies.
- Work closely with the Inclusion, SEN, and ELL teams to create a cohesive support system for students.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Education, Linguistics, TESOL, or a related field (a teaching qualification is preferred).
- Fluency in both Mandarin and English (spoken and written) is essential.
- Experience in ELL/ESL teaching (preferably within a British curriculum or international school setting).
- Strong understanding of ELL strategies, phonics, and language acquisition methodologies.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage with students, parents, and colleagues.
