Job description / Role
The MEP Design Director is responsible for leading and managing the design, coordination, and integration of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems across all phases of real estate development projects. This role ensures that all MEP systems are designed to meet the highest standards of quality, efficiency, sustainability, and compliance, aligned with project goals, budgets, and timelines.
Key Responsibilities:
• Leadership & Oversight
o Lead the MEP design strategy for large-scale residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments.
o Oversee the planning, design, and execution of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
o Coordinate with internal teams, architects, structural engineers, and external consultants to ensure integrated design solutions.
• Design & Engineering Management
o Manage and review design deliverables from consultants and contractors for all MEP systems.
o Ensure that designs align with project requirements, local building codes, sustainability targets, and technical standards.
o Supervise value engineering processes and implement cost-effective MEP solutions without compromising quality.
• Project Execution
o Participate in design reviews, technical workshops, and stakeholder presentations.
o Oversee installation, commissioning, and testing processes during the construction phase.
o Support the construction team in resolving design and technical challenges on-site.
• Compliance & Risk Management
o Ensure all MEP systems comply with local codes, health and safety standards, and environmental regulations.
o Identify and mitigate MEP-related risks across project lifecycles.
• Innovation & Sustainability
o Promote the adoption of smart building technologies, energy efficiency strategies, and sustainable MEP designs (LEED, Estidama, etc.).
o Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in building services engineering.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Professional Engineering license or chartered status preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, with at least 5 years in a senior design leadership role in real estate or large-scale construction projects.
• Proven track record of delivering complex mixed-use, residential, or commercial developments.
• Strong knowledge of international and regional MEP codes, standards, and technologies.
• Excellent leadership, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience in managing consultant and contractor teams.
• Familiarity with BIM and other digital design tools is a plus.
