Job description / Role
The Role:
• Install, configure, and support an organization's MySQL databases.
• Monitor MySQL databases to ensure database availability and perform necessary tuning and troubleshooting to support databases availability.
• Assist in database dimensioning, analysis, planning, and coordination between Applications and VM(s) hardware and software.
• May supervise Applications specialists and will administrate MySQL databases.
Essential Job Functions:
• Support Development teams to optimize and standardize database changes through builds and deployments.
• Provision MySQL instances, both in clustered and non-clustered configurations.
• Essential Database administration - upgrade, backup, recovery, migration.
• Help architect to implement solutions that solve complicated application challenges, including application performance, scalability, and security. This includes schema, index and key design and enterprise application architecture.
• Ensure performance, security, and availability of databases
• Troubleshoot database problems and failures, to determine the causes and possible solutions, implements solutions to resolve problems.
• Monitor database operations and prepare monthly activity reports for the reporting manager regarding activities, database problems and utilization
• Perform database backups and disaster recovery operations.
• Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders (Customers, Operations team, Development team)
• Document and share database best practices and procedures
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in computer science or related discipline.
• Certified MySQL 5.6 Database Administrator a plus
• Must have a minimum of 5 years of solid hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge of database technology such as MySQL, Oracle, SQL, noSQL and including analytical function is required
• Understanding of MySQL’s underlying storage engines, such as InnoDB and MyISAM
• Experience with replication configuration in MySQL and disaster recovery features
• Knowledge of de-facto standards and best practices in MySQL
• Proficient in writing and optimizing SQL statements
• Knowledge of MySQL features, such as its event scheduler
• Ability to plan resource requirements from high level specifications
• Familiarity with other SQL/NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.
• Knowledge of limitations in MySQL and their workarounds in contrast to other popular relational databases
• Understanding of database architecture for high availability and disaster recover
• Proficient in Linux/UNIX general management and troubleshooting
• Shell script experience, java script a plus
• Written and verbal communication skills required
• Good team skills with a wiliness to share and learn
