Job description / Role
Within Wood Abu Dhabi, we are actively expanding our project delivery portfolio to include Engineering Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) Contracts.
As part of this growth, we are looking for personnel to join our team, either from internal Wood employees or the external market.
The type of personnel we are looking for is broad ranging including:
- Ambitious people that want to grow their career within this exciting contract execution model, where they will gain experience across the full project lifecycle from Detailed Engineering, through Procurement & Fabrication and into the Offshore Execution, covering Construction, Commissioning, Start -up and Handover to Operations.
- Experienced personnel with a background in PMC, EPC or EPCM projects, that can take on senior positions within the organisation and use their experience to steer the team to deliver outstanding performance across a portfolio of projects for Major Operators.
Projects within the EPCM model are wide and varied covering both onshore and offshore Brownfield Assets; typical examples include:
- Onshore Pipeline Controls System Upgrades
- Offshore Aset enhancement projects covering multiple system and equipment on large platforms, Wellhead Towers and Islands

Job Objective:
- The safe and effective delivery of a portfolio of Brownfield Safety Critical Projects on multiple offshore platforms; including large production complexes (multiple platforms bridge linked) and remote Wellhead Towers, located offshore within the UAE under an EPCM contracting model.
- Typical projects include Fire & Gas System Upgrades, Power Upgrades, Control System Upgrades, Flare System Upgrades and Platform Structural Modifications.
- Focal Point for all Site Surveys required during FEED verification and Detailed Design phase.
- Involvement within Detailed Design across all disciplines to ensure overall knowledge of design for offshore implementation.
- Engineering Focal point offshore on asset for managing any design issues that arise during the Construction phase, to provide solutions which are then routed through Engineering for appropriate design and approval for implementation.
- Prompt resolution and turnaround of any on-site design issues or changes in order to expedite the works on the offshore assets without impacting overall schedule.
- Provide certainty and confidence to the client and Wood project sponsor that the contract is being delivered safely with a strong focus on optimization, cost control, risk management, schedule adherence and stakeholder management.
Responsibilities
- Engagement with Construction Contractors and Client team to address any on-site (offshore) Design issues, clashes, or changes and provide outline Design requirements along with proposed solution where feasible.
- Covers multi-discipline scopes and engages the appropriate discipline within Engineering / Design Team as required
- Engagement with onshore Engineering / Design Team to approve solution and instruction to proceed for non-complex issues.
- Engagement with onshore Engineering / Design Team to develop solution and obtain concurrence from offshore Operations Team (where required) for design change to be approved through formal approval process and issue to Contractor.
- Provides onshore Engineering Design Team with information required to effect design and issues deliverables.
- Engagement with Operations and Maintenance teams to understand on-site issues to be considered in the Detailed Design Deliverables.
- Identifies cost effective solutions to design problems.
- Develop Material take-offs as required to ensure materials are sourced any modifications implemented.
- Maintains Site Query Register and drives close out of all technical issues on-site.
- Prepares engineering drawings and design information according to established standards and procedures.
- Prepares mechanical or digital drawings, diagrams or blueprints and/or models of various products or structures, using computer-aided drafting (CAD) and/or computer-aided drafting and design (CADD) software.
- Develops working drawings, within company and industry standards and codes, from equipment specifications and detailed drawings to support completion of engineering deliverables.
- Creates drawings involving plans, layouts, calculations and bills of material.
- Performs layouts, design and checking work from the basic data supplied.
- Designs and makes detail drawings from rough sketches involving intricate calculations and the application of fundamental engineering principles.
- Prepares estimates of time, quantities, materials and labour required for activities related to testing, installation, manufacture, design or construction.
- Ensures quality in design, technical accuracy in the preparation of drawings, material quantities, etc including reviewing others work at more senior levels.
- Plans assigned work effectively and obtains/provides information liaising with the project team and line manager, in time to control man-hours and achieve targets.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal:
- Project Management Team including Engineering Manager, Project Engineers, Supply Chain Manager, Project Controls Manager, HSE Manager, Quality Manager, Construction Manager and Site Manager
External:
- Establishes and maintains a positive and effective customer relationship with client Project and Offshore Operations Team.
- Establishes and maintains a positive and effective relationship with construction contractors and vendors to remove conflict and ensure schedule adherence.
LEVEL OF INFLUENCE & DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY:
- Work is performed under general direction and is reviewed for conformance with policies and general efficiency
- Approval of Proposed Engineering / Design Solutions through formal approval route.
Requirements:
- Diploma in Engineering from an accredited university
- Minimum ten (10) years relevant experience in the oil & gas industry including offshore Brownfield projects.
Role-Specific Skills/ Experience:
- Experience as part of Contractor Management Team in EPC and / or EPCM contracts for offshore Brownfield Oil & Gas projects for major Oil & Gas companies.
- A thorough understanding of related engineering principles and practices, plus training and diversified experience in the field of activity is required.
- Capable of interpreting key documents including engineering standards, piping material specifications, P&IDs and Line Lists.
- Technically oriented, mechanically inclined, good at mathematics and talented at translating intangible concepts into hands-on project plans.
- Competent user of CAD/D software.
