Gardener - The Arbor School

This is an opportunity to join the team of a new, premium, full age-range school in Dubai which will open in August 2018. Operating to the English curriculum, the school will have, as its core philosophy, an emphasis on ecological education, education for sustainability and inclusion. The facilities shall be outstanding, and include bio-domes, learning gardens and extensive provision for both sports and the arts.

We therefore seek exceptionally hard working and motivated team members, who view a founding school as an opportunity to take an important role in shaping a truly outstanding education. We are looking to recruit a Gardener who will assist the Director of Sustainability and Head of Permaculture in the daily maintenance and care of the biodomes, learning gardens, community allotments, and permaculture systems throughout the school.. All our staff shall play a key role in fulfilling the school’s mission in ensuring that the Arbor School fosters a positive, caring and compassionate learning environment, which is anchored by a deep sense of environmental justice and sustainability.

Requirements

Required Candidate Profile:

• Horticulture or agricultural background
• At least three years' working experience in gardening or farm work
• Experience gardening/farming in hot climates, either desert or tropical, or both
• Experience with manual work, including living and moving around heavy equipment
• The ideal candidate would have familiarity or experience in permaculture design systems

Skills:

• Basic maintenance skills, such as fixing issues with irrigation, small construction projects like building basic structures for shading and working on/with small mechanical systems.
• Knowledge of plant care, which includes sowing seeds, transplanting seedlings, weeding, trimming, watering plants, harvesting vegetables and an understanding of different irrigation systems
