Overview

Wood is currently recruiting for a PMC Commissioning Lead Instrumentation & Control with extensive experience in the oil and gas industry for ADNOC Offshore client to be based in Abu Dhabi.

The EPC-2 Commissioning Lead will provide leadership and guidance to the full scope of the EPC-2 Commissioning Team. As a single point of contact for all project commissioning, he should manage all activities associated with pre-commissioning, commissioning, and handover to operations for all phases of the EPC-2 Project.

He ensures that the EPC-2 contractor is adequately planning pre-commissioning activities and executing completions work as per contract. He will assist EPC-2 contractors with developing system completion plans, procedures, and other commissioning-related engineering deliverables during the detailed design phase.

He facilitates support for permits to work and safe pre-commissioning work practices. Additionally, he will lead the commissioning team in support of ZADCO operations during the start-up of new facilities. He must be capable of leading fully qualified staff, who will work closely with the EPC-2 Contractors and ZADCO Operations team to ensure that project start-up is safe, efficient, and with minimum downtime. He acts as the first line system completions issues interface with the EPC-2 contractor and escalates important or urgent issues to the Commissioning Manager and/or EPC-2 Project Manager when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates personal HSE leadership and behaviors at all times. Performs as a safety leader through all work and activities, setting and exhibiting the highest standards.
  • Supports contractor commissioning engineers to ensure that Systems Completion Plans are being prepared during the detailed design phase and are being properly executed during construction and commissioning phases.
  • Assists EPC contractors with developing system completion plans and ensures that these plans meet the intent of project specifications regarding engineering deliverables during the detailed design phase. Leads the review and approval process for the Systems Completion Plan, with primary focus on the EPC-2 contractor during the detailed design phase.
  • Reviews and edits contractor drafted pre-commissioning and commissioning procedures.
  • Supports site commissioning teams in fabrication yards and at site with critical activities and regularly inspects equipment and systems with a focus on interfaces and tie-ins.
  • Actively assists the EPC-2 contractor to identify commissioning interfaces between the EPC-2 contractor and key module or other suppliers and ensures that any technical interface issues are raised early.
  • Identifies temporary commissioning interfaces that will be needed during the commissioning phase of the project at site and ensures those are being addressed (e.g., temporary blinds, vents, drains, electrical power, etc.).
  • Supports the Systems Completion Database lead to ensure that completion testing and verification for interfaces and tie-ins are included in the testing program and that ownership of the interface testing is established (i.e., who is going to do it is known and ownership agreed).
  • Supports PMT Cost and Schedule function with commissioning-related inputs from an overall UZ-750 project perspective.
  • Supports the UZ-750 Commissioning Manager with staff work, including the generation of draft weekly reports, progress tracking, and key issue updates. Stands in for the Commissioning Manager during leaves.
  • Reports to the UZ-750 EPC-2 Project Manager and functionally to the Commissioning Manager and maintains frequent communication with the EPC-2 Construction Manager, EPC-2 Site Commissioning Leads, EPC-2 Project Manager, UZ-750 Operations Interface team, and EPC-2 Contractor Commissioning Manager.
  • Follows the project through to the provisional acceptance of final UZ-750 facilities, with extensive time spent offshore during the construction and commissioning phase.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Instrument/Control systems engineering with a minimum of 15 years of oil and gas industry experience, including at least 5 years on major capital projects (greater than 500 million USD) with pre-commissioning and commissioning focus.
  • Experience within an oil and gas operating company executing turnarounds or brownfield projects is also highly desired and may be considered in lieu of capital project experience.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a strong command of the English language.
  • Past experience managing interfaces between contractors or between contractor and an operating company is also highly desirable.
  • Must have a working knowledge of at least one type of systems completion database.
  • Must be willing to travel extensively for multi-week periods and have the flexibility to adjust work location to support project needs.

Must be qualified to obtain a CICPA and a UAE work visa.
