Job description / Role
Duties and responsibilities
Teaching:
- Deliver the required curriculum; demonstrating accurate and up to date knowledge of curriculum and subject
- Plan and deliver quality lessons to motivate students. Create and utilise appropriate materials and the classroom environment to cater for different learning
- Show written evidence of planning and preparation on establish and maintain records of curriculum and year plans, attendance, teaching resources, assessment plans etc.
- Teach students assigned according to their individual needs using appropriate teaching strategies that meet student needs and abilities eg. Late-entering students, esl, low academic ability, gifted and talented etc.
- Set and mark assess, record and report on the academic development, progress and attainment of students and use assessment to ensure the curriculum meets the individual student's
- Display competence in using media and technology
- Promote the general progress and well-being of students and provide guidance to students on educational
- Perform clerical duties associated with textbooks, instructional supplies, equipment, student reports and records, attendance
- Prepare a daily program including daily lesson plans which shall be available for substitute teacher
- Contribute to the monitoring of student outcomes and effectiveness of programs and the assessment and reporting of individual student
- Contribute to the implementation of curriculum improvement/development.
Communication:
- Communicate with persons outside the school where appropriate (eg ministry of education officials).
- Communicate and meet with parents regularly promoting the gems philosophy and core values; keep parents regularly informed of students' progress while respecting the confidentiality of student-related information
- Promote community understanding of the school, encourage the involvement of parents in the school and facilitate interaction between staff, students, parents and members of the
- Initiate, facilitate and engage in appropriate communication and interaction between staff, parents, school and community
Professional development:
- Take part in the school's appraisal procedures
- Take part in further training and development in order to improve own teaching
- Where appropriate, take part in the appraisal and professional development of others
- Participate in appraisal and performance management procedures and continuing professional development (cpd).
- Work alongside colleagues on the preparation and development of teaching materials, resources, courses of study and pastoral
- Participate in, and lead where appropriate, the co-curricular and extra-curricular programmes in the promote good working relationships through active leadership and sharing of ideas, materials and experiences.
Requirements:
Health, safety and discipline:
- Monitor and supervise safe and appropriate student behavior. Plan and implement strategies to encourage self-discipline and manage disruptive
- Assist in the planning and organising of school events and functions (eg inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, prize days etc).

- Manage a well-rounded educational program, directing groups in their classes, assisting students individually and supervising extra-curricular
- Advise or correct students when necessary in the classroom or on the school premises, and shall keep the head informed concerning student behaviour and discipline
- Plan all excursions with the head, this includes provision for transportation, adult supervision, parent consent forms, time schedule, etc. A first-aid kit shall be included with the class roll shall be checked before the return trip.
- Are responsible for the physical environment of the this involves attention to the display, neatness, order, ventilation, temperature, lighting, care of furniture, books, supplies, apparatus, and other equipment in the room.
