Primary Objectives / Responsibilities
- Supports the business by communicating team resource loading and skill requirements to the direct supervisor.
- Ensures the project work is covered for vacation and unplanned absences. Mentors/trains and supports the delivery of training.
- Encourages knowledge of and compliance with requirements and processes.
- Works to resolve inter-discipline, vendor, and customer issues.
- Ensures discipline technical work and team activities meet all health, safety, environmental, and security requirements.
- Functions as a departmental representative at various meetings; may serve on behalf of superior as assigned.
- Ensures team member adherence to generally accepted engineering and design practices, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications.
- Supports the standardization of equipment specifications, drawings, and document templates.
- Contributes to the understanding of technical knowledge, legal requirements, and customer specifications whenever viable and lawful.
- Uses local/global standards to support technical excellence. Supports checking, peer reviews, and incorporation of comments and findings.
- Assists in determining issues, defining problems, identifying the pros and cons of multiple solutions. Makes recommendations for technical deviations from client specifications or technical queries. Assists in creating final documentation incorporating all relevant information and the pursuit of client authorization.
- Regularly review and challenge design procedures and instructions; simplify and improve them to facilitate awareness, understanding and application.
- Complete detailed designs from structural engineering sketches and specification outlined by engineers or a supervising design drafter.
- Investigate new drafting techniques and drafting equipment and recommend changes to standard practices.
- Ability to take on responsibility for the design and drafting of onshore steel structures, foundations, concrete structures and buildings including producing design sketches for junior designers.
- May participate in project execution strategy and planning.
- Knows the project and discipline scope/cost/time requirements, assists the team to meet expectations, and coordinates with other disciplines to ensure project success.
- Implements innovative solutions, technology advances, and methods to effectively deal with working out of sequence.
- Supports management of project change and progressing for the discipline and works with the Project Management Team to take corrective actions regarding any issues, staffing requirements, scope changes, progressing, or other events that could affect project completion and/or profitability.
- Plans discipline quality, monitors quality activities, drives and participates in squad checking, recommends improvements, and takes action where required.
- Monitor design/drafting estimating norms within asset for own discipline.
- Develop and promote drafting and CAD initiatives to improve cost effectiveness of design / drafting work within own discipline.
- Participate in review of structural design and advise on technical drafting difficulties or government compliance requirements as appropriate.
- Oversee the preparation of design and detail drawings from sketches, plans or other design / specification data.
- Participate in design review with various clients and to advise on technical design and drafting issues and compliance requirements as appropriate.
- Gathers data from multiple sources and prepares analyses, calculations, etc.
- Assists with recommendations and helps create final documentation.
- Determines technical issues, defines alternate solutions, establishes pros/cons for multiple solutions, and makes recommendations to support official project documents such as technical queries, technical deviations, etc.
- Creates final documentation incorporating all relevant information and pursues internal authorization.
- May review similar documentation to assist others and reviews/authorizes work done by direct reports.
- Perform discipline specific design and drafting services such as:
- Ensure the project scope is clear and that changes to scope comply with project change management processes;
- If required, participate in studies and analyses and recommend actions;
- Prepare and oversee the production of engineering drawings and documentation;
- Ensure all drawings and documents are checked in accordance with Worley checking procedures: and
- Participate in project reviews as required
- Responsible for the overall delivery of design and drafting of onshore steel structures, onshore foundation, concrete structures and buildings including producing design sketches for junior designers
- Incorporate information from multiple sources into equipment/material specifications, data sheets, testing requirements, and material requisitions.
- Participate in bid clarifications, bid evaluations, inter-discipline vendor information review and approval, and other certification activities.
- Reviews similar documentation to assist others and reviews/authorizes work done by direct reports
- Seeks input from knowledgeable sources, participates in constructability, operability, and maintainability reviews, and incorporates requirements into design.
- May work with site personnel to resolve issues.
- May create plans or documents that supports construction, testing, commissioning, operations, maintenance, or decommissioning.
- May provide or lead on-site support for construction, commissioning, or turn over
- Understands and communicates Worley's Vision, Purpose & Values and translates the strategy into practical goals and objectives for self and team members.
- Work within the provisions and guidelines of the Quality Assurance systems.
- Responsible for personal safety and working within the Occupational Health & Safety procedures.
- Competent in implementing HSE in the design process, focuses on process safety and strives to use best practice
Job Specific Knowledge:
- A thorough knowledge of the codes and standards and a good understanding of onshore/offshore engineering practices applicable to Civil and Structural design for oil and gas facilities.
- Able to make difficult decisions and lead and manage others in changing business conditions.
- Competent with the project estimating process and can input design deliverables into the estimating module.
- Conversant with brownfield engineering principles and the ability to incorporate them into design.
- Able to manage multiple projects for Civil Structural teams including all necessary reporting.
- Able to develop structural connections for greenfield and brownfield conditions.
- Expert knowledge in interpreting technical drawing.
- Extensive experience in Basic engineering drawing, Basic engineering detail drafting, Advanced engineering detail drafting and checking, and Advanced structural detail drafting.
- Specialized knowledge in 2D drawings using computer-aided design systems.
- Specialized knowledge in creating 3D drawings using computer-aided design systems.

Requirements:
Industry Specific Experience :
- Minimum years of proven experience in detailed Civil Structural design gained with design contractors and/or oil/gas companies within the industry.
- Extensive design experience in the relevant discipline in the same or similar industry, and, where relevant, experience managing and leading multi-disciplinary projects and teams.
Education - Qualifications, Accreditation, Training :
- Trade Apprenticeship, Certificate, Diploma, Advance Diploma of Engineering Technology in Civil Structural discipline
