Regional Business Development Manager, Middle East, Africa & Turkey

Based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, this position reports to the General Manager, Middle East, Africa & Turkey and will represent the Victorian government across 79 countries within the region.

This Regional Business Development Manager is responsible for promoting Victorian trade and export opportunities within the region. Key accountabilities for this role involve supporting Victorian businesses seeking to enter or currently operating within key markets throughout the region by identifying new growth opportunities, managing trade and export programs, and providing tailored business services.

• The role requires an experienced trade professional and experience in key sectors such as tech, mining and METS (mining, equipment, technology and services) would be ideal.
• The incumbent will have a track record of successful trade outcomes and/or establishment of trade networks, together with a strong knowledge of both the region and Victorian trade strengths and capabilities.
• This is underpinned by their sound understanding of the Victorian economy and Government priorities, particularly Victoria’s key industries and trade agenda.
• The successful candidate will demonstrate experience working in the region and will have had exposure to the region’s corporate decision-making processes and business culture.
• The role also requires demonstrated ability to successfully establish and maintain effective business relationships and networks with government, the business community and the wider Australian expatriate community to facilitate Government to Government dialogue and deliver trade economic outcomes.
• This role also works collaboratively with colleagues based in Dubai and at head office in Melbourne, Australia.

Requirements

Key Selection Criteria
• Knowledge and experience in a variety of sectors including tech, mining and METS and a track record in delivering market access and trade and investment outcomes.
• Demonstrated experience in export management and development, with extensive experience and a proven track record of trade and investment facilitation into the Middle East, Africa and Turkey.
• Comprehensive understanding of both Australian and Middle Eastern, African and Turkish business and government environments including key industry, economic and socio-political drivers.
• Sound knowledge of Australian trade and economic ties with the Middle East, Africa and Turkey and proven knowledge of Victoria’s international business competitive advantages.
• Understanding of international business protocols and experience managing relationships within complex, multicultural organisations, governments and corporations.
• Superior interpersonal, presentation and communication skills, including the ability to successfully conduct commercial/financial negotiations when representing the interests of the Government of Victoria, Australia.
• Extensive research and analytical experience, with sound conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to conduct research, identify issues and develop appropriate solutions.

Desired Experience/Qualifications
The following experience and skills are highly desirable:
• A relevant tertiary qualification from a recognised institute
• Experience in a regional business development role, particularly in the Middle East, Africa & Turkey
• Excellent understanding of the Victorian and Australian environment, in particular experience working in Australia or with Australian-based organisations.
