Job description
Role objective
To coordinate and manage compliance with CE marking and EU regulatory requirements for the BorWin6 Offshore HVDC Project, ensuring alignment with McDermott (MCD) certification guidelines, German national regulations (e.g., DGUV V3), and DDW internal processes. The role includes oversight of ATEX, MED, PED, and system-level conformity documentation, with a focus on HVAC and E&I systems.
Key roles & responsibilities
- Interpret and apply EU directives and regulations relevant to CE marking (e.g., Machinery Directive, Low Voltage Directive, ATEX, PED, MED, CPR).
- Coordinate with MCD to interpret system-wise certification guidelines and ensure alignment with project-specific requirements.
- Confirm applicability of ATEX and DGUV(V3) for E&I equipment and ensure compliance with German national rules.
- Review vendor documentation and ensure sourced equipment/materials conform to applicable EU directives and harmonized standards.
- Coordinate with design teams, client certification personnel, procurement, and vendors to ensure certification deliverables are aligned and timely.
- Lead risk assessments and support the issuance of Declarations of Conformity (DoC) for systems, including HVAC and Galley Fire Suppression.
- Compile and maintain technical files (e.g., risk assessments, test reports, design drawings) as required by EU legislation and project documentation protocols.
- Coordinate system boundary matrix development with category and certification mapping.
- Support self-certification and risk assessment processes for DDW HVAC systems.
- Update the Compliance Matrix with full tag alignment and traceability to vendor documentation.
- Support MC/ITR documentation compilation and handover to commissioning team.
- Liaise with notified bodies, classification societies, and regulatory consultants as needed.
- Monitor updates to EU and German legislation and ensure documentation remains current.
- Provide training and guidance to internal teams on CE marking, ATEX, and DGUV(V3) requirements.
- Identify compliance gaps and implement corrective/preventive actions.
- Track and report on certification timelines, documentation status, and compliance KPIs.
Required skills & experience
- Strong knowledge of EU product safety legislation and CE marking processes, including ATEX, DGUV(V3), PED, MED, CPR, and LSA/FFA.
- Experience with COC/DoC validation and technical file compilation.
- Ability to synthesize vendor documentation and map to compliance matrices and system boundaries.
- Familiarity with ISO standards, quality systems, and risk assessment methodologies.
- Excellent project coordination, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills.
Qualifications
- Diploma or higher in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Certification Engineer or Coordinator in offshore renewable energy or HVDC projects within the EU regulatory framework.
