The role of the Maintenance Manager is primarily involved in the criticality and reliability assessment analysis of the plant; identifying critical/sensitive materials and identifying critical spare parts to be purchased

Is involved in defining the Plant Maintenance Strategy

Schedules maintenance work assisted by the CMMS coordinator

Responsible for the plant’s continuous operation activities. Ensuring the water quality and plant availability are controlled and operated to agreed performance targets. The day to day management of all maintenance staff.

The Maintenance Manager’s key accountabilities encompass;

Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality Management:
- Manage and comply with all legislation and regulations related to HSE.
- Follow all HSE policies and procedures.
- Provide Management and direction to employees in relation to protection of the health and safety of themselves, others and protecting the environment.
- Manage and actively participate in all site OH&S and Environmental initiatives.
- Ensure compliance to the plant’s Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental requirements by:
- Conducting regular audits and reviews of systems.
- Developing procedures and managing training requirements for all maintenance staff (e.g. Loss of containment, First Aid, medical and loss time injuries).
- Ensure that HSE risks related to operation and maintenance activities whether carried out by employees or contractors are properly managed.
- Facilitate an effective involvement of plant personnel in the maintenance and development of the HSE management system.
- Manage and Support the accreditation of the plant

Governance:
- Compliance with all relevant applicable laws, Directives and project documents;
- Compliance with the appropriate corporate Policies and Procedures; and,
- Compliance with corporate internal controls.

Human Resources:
- Direct the activities of the Maintenance Technicians, Buyer and Stores person.
- Develop an effective organisation to meet plant objectives by:
- Implementing the performance management system.
- Providing Management and direction to the Maintenance Team.
- Manage training requirements of the Operation Team
- Plan for career development of subordinates

Maintenance:
- Oversee the management of operations to ensure the plant meets all requirements.
- Management and direction of the plant maintenance instructions and procedures.
- Supervises the up keeping and maintenance of all facilities (including civil works, mechanical & electrical equipment, instrumentation, pipes, lightening, etc.)
- Elaborates, forecasts, applies and achieve the maintenance planning (supervises the maintenance planning)
- Executes the maintenance program with the help of the Maintenance staff
- Proposes technical improvements of the plant in coordination with the Operation Department
- Provide Technical advice to the Plant Manager and Operations Manager as required.
- Is responsible (assisted by the store keeper) for the spare parts, warehouse, workshop, vehicles and material maintenance and inventory
- Maintains an appropriate maintenance strategy, anticipates the future needs and proposes to the Management improvements seeking to reduce costs and improve plant availability
- Applies and ensures the fulfilment of the maintenance procedures, after having defined them with the Plant Manager
- Maintains adequate and accurate Safe System of work documentation to support the coordination of activities in compliance with Company Safety Instructions and Facility requirement
- Ensures that all works are performed according to good engineering practices, in time and safely

Finance:
- Ensure production budget requirements are maintained by assisting the Plant Manager in preparation of operational expenditure budgets.
- Monitoring budget cost and planning to ensure compliance.
- Coordinates with the Financial & Administrative Manager the ordering of all equipment needed to perform maintenance work
- Is involved in maintenance contracts preparation and implementation
- Appraises the technical value of quotations and eventually negotiates with suppliers for main works together with the Purchaser

Outcome, Results and Key Performance Indicators:
- Plant Load Factor, Efficiency and Availability as business plan.
- Achieve PFO to budget.
- Plant availability and efficiency.
- No reportable accidents as a result of failures of the safe system of work
- No trips from stable generation.
- No reportable breeches of the Environmental Permit.
- No customer complaints.
- Achieve/maintain OSHAS 18001
- Achieve/maintain ISO 14001
- Achieve/maintain ISO 9001

Key relationships:
- Communicates with the Operation team to keep the plant staff informed about scheduled maintenance and activity progress
- Writes monthly maintenance reports,
- Ensures that significant safety documentation in support to the maintenance tasks is properly defined, prepared and utilized
- Ensures work feedback to the Maintenance staff
- Keeps informed the Plant Manager on the work progress.
- Elaborates and transmits maintenance reports on important issues and problems
- Power and Water off taker

Requirements

- Engineering degree or equivalent (preferably electrical/mechanical
- Recognized management qualification (optional)
- Previous successful experience (minimum 5 years) in maintenance management of SWRO plant

Knowledge and skills:
- Good foundation and practical knowledge of SWRO plant maintenance
- SWRO plant engineering concepts
- Strong understanding of Quality, Health, Safety and Environment management systems, safety rules and associated legislation
- Experience in plant start-up
- Working knowledge of commercial contracts and agreements (PWPA, O&M etc.)
- Exposure of Budget and cost control
- Good command of the English language
- Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
- Detailed knowledge of applicable H.S.E and regulatory requirements
- Detailed knowledge of corporate safety rules
- Excellent command of English language
- Good verbal and written communication skills
