Senior Assistant Manager, One Voice - Group Communications

About Group Communication

Mubadala Group Communications strives to be a world-class communications team that builds, promotes and protects the reputation of Mubadala and its businesses. As storytellers, our role is to leverage various channels of communication to build understanding of Mubadala as a catalyst for economic diversification of Abu Dhabi, through engagement with various stakeholders at home and abroad.

The Challenge

To provide strategic guidance to the Group on evolving and expressing the company's narrative through well-crafted, compelling storytelling and messaging across channels and audiences. This includes stewardship of the brand tone of voice, style, etc., in order to ensure effective and consistent communications across the Group in line with the organization's strategy and values.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and Performance Management

- Contribute to the development and execution of the Group Communications long-term strategic plan to ensure alignment with organizational priorities and the corporate strategy.
- Contribute to the development of annual business plans for the assigned areas of responsibility to support the achievement of financial and strategic objectives.
- Support in the monitoring and reporting on key performance indicators related to the function in order to track performance and recommend corrective action.

People Management

- Manage the activities of direct reports to ensure that all work is carried out in an efficient manner, in line with the annual business plans, and policies and procedures.
- Manage the effective achievement of the One Voice objectives by setting individual targets, recruiting and developing staff, and conducting and reviewing performance appraisals for direct reports in order to maximize performance.
- Manage the training and development of team members to ensure continuous progression, and a high-level of competence within the team.

Budget Planning

- Manage preparation and tracking of the One Voice budget.
- Provide input into the preparation and consolidation of the Group Communications budget and advise line management on risks and opportunities.

Narrative Stewardship

- Agree with Group Leadership and Senior Executive Management on the desired Mubadala Investment Company corporate narrative and tone of voice, in line with the organization's strategy and culture, in order to ensure that Mubadala's brand is reflected accurately, consistently and in a compelling way across its internal and external communications.
- Provide senior oversight of how the company's narrative is expressed on wide-ranging platforms, assessing and providing recommendations to enhance quality, relevance, consistency and strategic alignment.
- Manage the development and execution of One Voice communication strategies, plans and guidelines that are aligned to business needs, and the organization's image, culture, values and behaviors.
- Manage the development of narrative/storytelling evaluation techniques in order to measure the effectiveness of internal and external communications on people's behavior and perception of the brand.
- Identify opportunities to improve how Mubadala Investment Company's corporate narrative is packaged and conveyed, with a focus on creative approaches that build off best practice. Ensure proposals and activities are aligned with the defined corporate communications strategy, with a view to conveying messages effectively while maintaining the corporate image and brand standards.

Content Management

- Deploy effective content management mechanisms and tools to build awareness of Mubadala Investment Company's corporate narrative, tone of voice, style, structure, etc. and ensure consistency and effectiveness of internal and external communications.
- Oversee the development and implementation of content management activities, including proof reading, editing, translating, etc. in order to ensure all assigned activities are conducted in a timely and accurate manner.

Technical Advice

- Provide technical advice to Mubadala Investment Company's subsidiaries, assets and operating companies to support in adopting Mubadala Investment Company 's One Voice strategy in all internal and external communications in order to ensure effective and consistent communications across the Group and in line with the organization's corporate image and brand standards.

Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures

- Recommend improvements to functional procedures, and ensure implementation of policies, procedures, systems and controls covering the assigned areas of responsibility, so that all activities meet Mubadala Investment Company 's standards, compliance, and regulatory requirements, align to business requirements, and increase operational efficiency.
- Identify opportunities for the continuous improvement of systems, processes and practices, taking into account 'international leading practice', in order to improve business processes, and increase operational effectiveness.

Qualifications

Knowledge, skills and experience

Minimum Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in communications or equivalent.

Experience:

- Minimum of 10 years of experience in progressive and more senior-level roles in corporate communications. Preferably experience in a large-scale organization with complex and multi-sectorial business operations or experience working in various industries. At least 3 years in a managerial / supervisory position .

- Additional relevant experience is an advantage.

Knowledge

- Understanding of the strategic role of a strong corporate narrative to effect positive change, build brand awareness/understanding, and support the achievement of business objectives.
- Excellent ability to contribute at a senior level to narrative development and refinement in alignment with strategy, including through strong leadership and influencing skills.
- Strong ability to identify reputational risk areas and propose sensible mitigating actions to senior management.
- Excellent English language skills, both written and verbal, with a strong ability to provide both senior counsel and hands-on editorial support for wide-ranging messaging and content, including social media and multimedia content.
- Solid knowledge of multimedia storytelling approaches and techniques, particularly videography.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills, with an ability to ensure multiple, complex projects are delivered to plan, on time and on budget.
- Solid knowledge of PR measurement approaches and techniques.
- Strong knowledge of corporate communications, including experience with both internal and external communications functions, and the management and deployment of narrative processes and tools.
- Strong knowledge of communication and influencing techniques, and the ability to collaborate effectively with people across a wide range of functions and at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to develop and maintain successful relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Creative and innovative approach to communications with the ability to identify new ways of working and lead change.
