Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

The Senior Charge Nurse is responsible for supervision and coordination of all patient
care activities for all shifts.

Responsibilities
- Identify and monitor specified nosocomial infections, performs targeted surveillance, outbreak investigations, and ad hoc projects as defined by the Infection Control Committee, Hospital Epidemiologist and the Administration.
- Participates in performance improvement projects related in communicable diseases and emerging pathogens within the facility.
- Collects, monitors, and maintains records and data pertinent to surveillance, via computer support (utilizing CDC or APIC) infection criteria, documentation and investigation techniques.)
- Reports surveillance, investigations, and projects as defined above to appropriate committees, administrative staff, and supervisors/managers.
- Makes rounds of hospital units for the purpose of case definition, monitoring of infection control practices, and other related patient care issues.
- Assists the hospital epidemiologist as necessary, for example:
- a. investigation of possible communicable disease exposures among health care workers, patients, and/or visitors
- b. tracing the possible sources of infection or transmission of microorganisms within the hospital
- c. investigation of clusters or outbreaks of infections or colonization
- Develops and ensures the implementation and evaluation of standards of patient care delivery.
- Leads and directs the delivery of nursing services in a given area to meet the varying needs of patients and family; provides or supports training to staff as needed.
- Effective staff management to ensure utilization of positions assigned to the wards best meet the needs of the patient population served.
- Oversees staff utilization and collaborates with other ward Managers to ensure proper clinical coverage for the scope of patient care required.
- Supports the shift nurse in charge for patient placement and optimal utilization of beds and equipment based on priority of patient care needs

Requirements

- Good English spoken & written, Arabic language advantageous/desirable, but not essential.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or equivalent qualification of NLT 3 years study duration from accredited program; AND Valid/Current national license and BLS
- Preferred: Certificate of post graduate diploma in nursing or Healthcare or management or administration field
- International accreditation experience 4.3 Required Experience:
- NLT 6 years clinical experience in an appropriate & relevant healthcare settings post qualification and
- NLT2 year in Senior Charge Nurse (S. C.N.) position, OR NLT 3 years in a Charge Nurse Position.
- Demonstrates sound decision-making and leadership skills.
