Wood is currently inviting expressions of interest for Senior Engineer Occupational Health & Contractor HSE & Welfare Management position to be based in Abu Dhabi for a PMC downstream/methanol project.

Job Objectives:

Contribute to the delivery of engineering excellence through:

  • Definition and approval of technical scopes.
  • Executing assigned scopes of work.
  • Providing technical expertise to the business.
  • Contributing to business growth.
  • May manage and supervise teams and/or act as a technical specialist.

Responsibilities

  • Participates as a team member in a specific phase of a broad engineering assignment.
  • Directs preparation of appropriate documentation for assigned projects.
  • Ensures successful completion of the assigned project/phase within the budgeted time and cost constraints.
  • Participates in defining engineering approaches, and in planning and scheduling work.
  • Evaluates problems, organizes investigations, and establishes general performance specifications for components, equipment, systems, processes, etc.
  • Checks engineering calculations as well as checks all drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards; assists with the development of less senior technical professionals.
  • Adheres to and complies with relevant discipline-specific procedures and provides feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Participates in audits and incident investigations as required.
  • Performs complex engineering tasks related to specific units of major projects.
  • Participates in site visits, project review meetings, design reviews, and other workshops as required.
  • Organizes and actively participates in design reviews.

Providing Discipline Expertise:

  • Solves problems requiring development of new approaches or new uses for existing approaches; exercises mature professional judgment in evaluating and selecting technical strategic options.
  • As necessary, modifies established guidelines, devises new approaches, applies existing criteria in new ways, and draws conclusions from comparative situations.
  • Regularly functions as a technical leader or significant contributor to a major complex problem or project.
  • Produces innovative ideas and solves problems requiring development of new approaches or new uses for existing approaches.
  • Consistently called on to use creativity and professional judgment to formulate results based on engineering standards, experience, and constructive thinking.
  • Develops unique solutions for complex technical problems.
  • Anticipates potential problems and takes the initiative to solve complex problems through creative thinking and creative use of internal and external resources both inside and outside of discipline expertise.
  • Exercises mature professional judgment in identifying the implications of experimental results.
  • Understands customer needs and applies technical solutions to meet goals.
  • Provides technical input and support to proposals as required.

Supporting and Supervising Task Delegation to Team:

  • May supervise a small work group consisting of technical/professional staff with some coaching from own supervisor, or may provide advice and guidance in area of specialization to others.
  • Assists in performing managerial tasks as requested, such as assigning tasks to engineers; planning and coordinating portions of the engineering work; preparing scopes, schedules, and budgets; attending project meetings; and developing lesser-experienced technical professionals.
  • Discusses with other senior engineers to agree priorities and implications on work of others.
  • Approves work schedules and makes recommendations for increased resources and special equipment.
  • Makes commitments on acceptance of projects, completion dates, resources, and staff required to meet goals.
  • Coordinates the activities of engineering and design groups assigned to small projects.
  • Participates in developing deadlines, projects, and work to be done.
  • May manage one or more small projects, with responsibility for cost, schedule, resources allocation, and risk.
  • Provides appropriate HSSE leadership including compliance with site and office safety requirements and technical/design safety requirements.

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with HSE related specialization or equivalent discipline, e.g., occupational health, industrial hygiene.
  • Minimum 15 years' experience in the oil and gas industry, majority in onshore downstream/methanol projects.
  • Preferably with ADNOC PMC project experience.
  • Able to work with other disciplines to meet delivery dates and design targets.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in HSE roles with a focus on occupational health, industrial hygiene, and contractor HSE & welfare management.
  • Experience in all or at least one of the following fields: upstream/downstream specifically in operations, construction, petrochemicals, and refinery is preferred on HSE matters.
  • Familiar with ADNOC HSE standards and applicable UAE regulations.
