Job description / Role
About the Company
We are the largest oil producer within the ADNOC Group, accounting for over half of ADNOC's total oil production. As the country's oldest oil production company, our operations date back to 1939, when a 75-year concession was signed to explore for oil and gas in Abu Dhabi. As a global industry leader in environmental sustainability, we are the first in the world to capture carbon from the iron and steel industry. Our Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) facility at Al Reyadah has the capacity to capture 800,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) from Emirates Steel Industries (ESI) each year, for use in the Bab and Rumaitha oil fields to support Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR). Al Reyadah is, therefore, a critical enabler of ADNOC's 2030 sustainability goals.
Job Purpose
Update and generate black oil and compositional simulation models with field development planning, short, and long-term profiles. Conduct model sensitivities and prioritize development schemes applying best practices, uncertainty and risk assessment, and economics. Undertake reservoir simulation studies to attain stated objectives and translate results into operational guidelines.
Key Accountabilities
Job Specific Accountabilities
- Coordinate and work with geoscientists on reservoir characterization and upscaling.
- Build sizable full field simulation models, history match, and use them in predictions.
- Conduct quality checks and ensure consistency of simulation models, history match scenarios with respect to geological model characteristics.
- Develop characterization of reservoir fluids and equation of state (EOS) modeling, calibration, and convert simple black oil models to compositional. Diagnose model convergence and run-time problems.
- Coordinate with the technical center in designing IOR/EOR methods (WI, immiscible GI, miscible GI, and surfactant and polymer injection) to enhance recovery and pressure maintenance methods.
- Apply different methods of reserves estimation using probabilistic and deterministic methods (Mbal, DCA, and simulation models sensitivities).
- Identify required actions using simulation models to maximize recovery and meet current production quotas; design, follow up, QC, and analyze reservoir studies e.g., RCA, SCAL, and PVT.
- Conduct special simulation studies for field development optimization (well pacing, infill wells, advanced wells, pilots).
- Apply multiphase flow in the reservoir, effective permeability concept, and correlations for relative permeability. Integrate pressure and production test results for reservoir simulation and management decisions.
- Contribute to reservoir monitoring programs and data gathering with effective cost programs to enable collecting necessary data to help best reservoir management and reduce uncertainties.
- Liaise with contractors conducting the study, analyze and review findings and actions study recommendations. Participate in periodic updates and validation of databases with monthly production/injection data and descriptions to display wells, reservoir, and field performance for appropriate distribution and simulation model recalibration.
Generic Accountabilities

- Plan, supervise, and coordinate all activities in the assigned area to meet functional objectives.
- Train and develop the assigned staff on relevant skills to enable them to become proficient on the job and deliver the respective section objectives.
Budgets
- Provide input for preparation of the department/section budgets, assist in the implementation of the approved budget, and work plans to deliver section objectives.
- Investigate and highlight any significant variances to support effective performance and cost control.
Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures
- Implement approved department/section policies, processes, systems, standards, and procedures in order to support execution of the department/section's work programs in line with company and international standards.
- Comply with all applicable legislation and legal regulations.
Performance Management
- Contribute to the achievement of the approved performance objectives for the department/section in line with the company performance framework.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement
- Design and implement new tools and techniques to improve the quality and efficiency of operational processes.
- Identify improvements in internal processes against best practices in pursuit of greater efficiency in line with ISO standards in order to define intelligent solutions for issues confronting the function.
Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) and Sustainability
- Comply with the ADNOC Onshore/ADNOC HSE procedure requirements.
- Report all incidents and occupational illnesses to the line supervisor.
- If aware of any unsafe practice or condition, or if in any doubt about the safety of any situation, immediately consult their line supervisor.
- Carry out the emergency responsibilities in line with the respective roles as per the emergency organization.
- Be familiar with the ADNOC HSE Recognition and Accountability Framework requirements. Comply with all applicable HSE requirements at all times. Exercise the STOP Work Authority bestowed if any unsafe act or situation puts you or your colleagues at risk.
Reports
- Provide inputs to prepare section MIS and progress reports for company management.
