Stafford Lawrence Ltd is seeking to recruit a Deputy Head of Department Geotechnical Design Engineering.   We are seeking a high-calibre Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer to step into a strategic leadership role as Deputy Head of Department.

THE ROLE
This is a pivotal leadership position based in Abu Dhabi within the contractor's Design & Engineering Department. You will lead the technical strategy for Design & Build (D&B) foundations, focusing on Value Engineering solutions that optimize project efficiency and commercial performance. PLEASE NOTE: we are not seeking someone who is a Design Reviewer or a Project Manager, you need to be able to Design.

Working closely with the Head of Department, you will bridge the gap between complex 3D modelling and real-world site delivery, ensuring that designs are both technically superior and "constructible."

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• D&B Design Leadership: Lead the geotechnical and structural design of bored/secant piles, diaphragm walls, barrettes, and anchors. Hands on lead design.
• Value Engineering: Use advanced modeling to optimize foundation schemes, reducing material costs while maintaining strict safety standards.
• Advanced Modelling: Perform complex 3D finite element modelling using Plaxis 3D for soil-structure interaction.
• Ground Improvement: Design and oversee vibro-compaction, stone columns, dynamic compaction, and advanced grouting.
• Technical Management: Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary team of designers and engineers, ensuring compliance with BS, Eurocodes, and local GCC regulations.

Our client requires a candidate who understands the "Contractor Mindset." Please apply if you meet the following:

• Industry Background: You MUST have substantial experience working for a Specialist Piling/Foundation Design & Build (D&B) Contractor. (Candidates with experience only in Consultancy will not be considered).
• Education: Master’s Degree in Geotechnical, Soil Mechanics, or Civil Engineering from a top-tier university.
• Experience: 12–15 years of total experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
• Software Mastery: Advanced proficiency in Plaxis 3D and SAFE is essential for soil-structure interaction and structural analysis.
• Technical Expertise: Proven track record in deep foundation design (diaphragm walls, barrettes) and ground improvement.
• Professional Status: Excellent English communication skills; PE or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status is highly preferred.
