Overview of the role
The Group Sustainability Strategy and Policy Manager is pivotal in shaping and implementing sustainability policies across the UAE and key international markets where Al-Futtaim operates. This role involves ensuring organizational alignment with local, national, and international environmental standards, particularly focusing on climate policy, EV adoption, green building standards, and waste management. As a new role, it actively contributes to Al-Futtaim's journey towards sustainability leadership, impacting brand perception, internal engagement, and strategic campaigns. Collaborating with division leaders and sustainability champions, the manager ensures that sustainability policies are integrated with the overall business strategy.
What you will do
Regulatory compliance monitoring
Continuously monitor the regulatory compliance landscape across all key markets such as UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt to ensure the organization stays ahead of emerging regulations and standards in sustainability.
Ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations, including those related to climate policy, electric vehicle (EV) adoption, green building standards, waste management, circularity, and other key sustainability initiatives.
Stakeholder engagement
Engage with internal and external stakeholders to drive sustainability policies and initiatives.
Collaborate with industry groups, NGOs, and government bodies to influence policy development and ensure the organization is represented in key discussions.
Research and analysis
Conduct research on emerging sustainability trends and regulations, including climate policy, EV adoption, green building standards, and circularity.
Analyze the impact of policy changes on the organization and propose strategic responses.
Perform market research and modeling to provide insights and recommendations to internal division stakeholders.
Training and education
Develop and deliver training programs on sustainability policies and regulations.
Educate employees on the importance of compliance and best practices.
Required skills to be successful
- Expertise in sustainability policy development and implementation.
- In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance.
- Advanced analytical and modeling capabilities.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
What qualifies you for the role
- Master's degree in environmental science, public policy, law, or a related field is required.
- At least 10 years of experience in sustainability policy, environmental law, or a related field.
- Proven track record in developing and implementing sustainability policies.
- Strong understanding of environmental regulations and compliance requirements related to climate policy, EV adoption, green building standards, waste management, and circularity.
- Strong analytical and modeling skills to assess impacts from policies.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
