Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Job description / Role

• Develop mechanical designs, including HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and firefighting systems based on project specifications and applicable codes.
• Perform load calculations using design software (HAP or equivalent) and determine equipment capacities and duct/piping sizes.
• Identify design and constructability issues and raise RFIs.
• Prepare design drawings, schematics, and single-line diagrams for all mechanical systems in coordination with architectural and structural layouts.
• Review design drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with project and authority standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, CIBSE).
• Select and specify HVAC and plumbing equipment, including chillers, FAHUs, AHUs, FCUs, pumps, valves, and control devices.
• Prepare BOQs, technical specifications, and design reports.
• Coordinate with consultants, clients, and other disciplines (electrical, civil, architectural) to resolve technical issues and ensure proper integration of services.
• Prepare shop drawings to ensure compliance with approved design intent and authority requirements.
• Liaise with local authorities (DCD, DM, DEWA, etc.) to obtain design approvals, NOCs, and verify compliance.
• Able to identify the Value Engineering & cost saving opportunities.
• Participate in BIM coordination meetings and ensure that mechanical services are properly routed and clash-free.
• Support the QA/QC team in reviewing inspection and testing procedures from a design compliance perspective.
• Ensure all designs are properly documented, updated, and controlled according to ISO quality procedures.
• Prepare as-built documentation and final design reports for project handover.
• Assist in commissioning plan preparation and system performance validation as per design criteria.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of authority regulations, energy efficiency requirements, and new design technologies.

Educational Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university.

Registrations / Certifications:
• Registered Engineer with UAE Society of Engineers.
• Other certifications like NFPA, ASHRAE, LEED/ESTIDAMA
Experience:
• 10 to 15 years of experience in mechanical system design for high-rise commercial, residential & hospitality buildings.
• Minimum 8-10 years of GCC experience, preferably in the UAE.
• Strong technical background in HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and firefighting system design in accordance with international and local authority standards (Municipality, DCD/ADCD, etc.).
Computer Software Proficiency:
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of design software such as HAP, Elite,
• Familiar with BIM coordination tools

Salary:
AED 16,000 to 18,500 per month inclusive of fixed allowances.
