Senior telecommunications engineer

Perform telecom engineering design tasks and support site personnel during construction and commissioning of greenfield and brownfield oil and gas facilities, ensuring reliable telecommunication systems critical to operations and safety. Projects span from conceptual studies and FEED to detailed design and complete installations.

Core responsibilities

  • Overseeing design activities for telecom systems including u2013 optical fiber communication systems, LAN & structured cabling system, telephone system, TETRA system, microwave radio, PAGA, ACS, CCTV, PIDS, entertainment system to suit client requirements.
  • Preparation of FEED and detail design deliverables such as design basis, specifications, datasheets, sizing calculations, block diagrams, location layouts, cable routing layouts, interconnection drawings, scope of works, RFQs & material requests.
  • Carry out bid evaluation, vendor document review and approval.
  • Conduct site surveys, equipment selection, and vendor management to facilitate seamless installation and commissioning of telecom networks.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams (electrical, instrumentation, mechanical) for smooth integration of telecom solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with international and regional standards like IEC, IEEE, ITU, and oil and gas specific telecom codes.
  • Provide technical leadership by troubleshooting, risk assessment, and mentoring junior telecom engineers and project teams.
  • Monitor quality assurance and control of telecom installations, ensuring operational reliability and safety.

Required qualifications and experience

  • Bacheloru2019s degree in Telecommunication or Electronics & Communication Engineering.
  • 15+ years of experience, including at least 8 years of telecom design engineering work experience within the oil and gas sector, particularly onshore and offshore projects in the Middle East.
  • Proven expertise in telecom technologies such as LAN/WAN, radio communication, fiber optics, CCTV, Access Control Systems, and IP telephony.
  • Familiarity with project types including EPC, FEED, PMC, and detailed engineering phases in large-scale oil and gas infrastructure projects like processing plants and offshore platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of telecom industry standards and protocols along with proficiency in design and simulation software.
  • Excellent leadership, communication skills, and ability to work under demanding project environments. Proficiency in English is mandatory.
