Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

We are currently looking to hire Steward Supervisor - Subject to Contract Award to provide effective supervision and leadership of both Serco FTE stewards and subcontractor staff engaged on stewarding services. The position reports to the Catering Manager and the role of the incumbent is to manage and supervise stewards and staff for smooth delivery of operations.

Key accountabilities

Key Job Responsibilities

- Management and supervision of 12 Serco FTE's and 22 Subcontractor staff
- On the Job training [OJT] of all stewarding staff
- Assist the catering manager and catering team in carrying out all aspects of cleaning and stewarding activities.
- Plan a cleaning schedule for the mess and surrounding areas
- Assignment of duties for the stewarding and cleaning teams
- Planning duty rosters for both Serco FTE's and subcontractor staff
- Pre-approving leave requests for Serco FTE's, liaison with subcontractor management to ensure subcontractor staff leave periods are covered by relief staff
- Maintain a monthly crockery and cutlery inventory
- Supervise all general cleaning tasks in kitchen and preparation areas as required in accordance with [IAW] ISO 22000 and HACCP requirements
- Supervise front of house services during meal service periods
- Organize and set up and service areas for VIP visits and any functions both internal to the mess building and at any external locations
- Maintain accurate records of temperature control of all hot and cold service equipment in the dining room and adjacent areas
- Ensure the equipment is maintained in a clean and hygienic condition at all times
- Ensure that all faults are reported immediately and accurately assigned a priority level, follow up to successful completion
- Review all processes and procedures [IAW] ISO requirements or whenever there is a change in process or additional equipment / machinery is introduced
- Any other reasonable tasks as required from catering management and/or head of hospitality

HSQE Responsibilities and Information Security Responsibilities

- Induction of new starters in all required tasks, use of equipment and machinery and fire drills and procedures
- Understanding of personal responsibilities and contribution to achieving compliance with the Integrated Management System requirements, (including but not limited to competence to perform safety critical roles, legal requirements, control measures arisen from environmental impacts and aspects, job safety analysis and information security risk assessment)
- To exercise a personal duty of care for their own health, safety and welfare and for those affected by their acts or omissions;
- Lead by example and look at ways to conserve energy, water and resources and minimize the generation of waste through personal performance and raise recommendations on how to improve existing processes
- Protect information assets and data including both electronic and paper based from all threats whether internal, external, deliberate or accidental;
- Promote a positive health and safety culture among their teams and subcontractors

Safety Critical Responsibility

- Immediately stop any unsafe ACT and correct any unsafe condition
- Ensure all staff are wearing clean, serviceable uniforms before the start of each duty
- Ensure staff wear the correct and full PPE required for each task
- Carry out weekly safety tours and inspections on a random basis and report findings to catering manager

Requirements

Essential technical and professional skills, knowledge and qualifications

Knowledge , Skills , Experience

- Ideally of post-secondary education and/or relevant professional qualifications;
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in a relevant field;
- Good interpersonal and people skills and a mature, methodical and responsible approach to work;
- Ability to demonstrate both good communications literacy and numeracy skills required for the role
- Ability to deliver Tool Box Talks [TBT's] and safety briefings
- Problem solver with ability to think on their feet and react to the constant military changes in requirements
- Must be well organized

Additional / special features of the role

Technical, Financial and People Accountabilities

- In-depth knowledge of stewarding duties
- In-depth knowledge of cleaning and sanitization methodologies
- Well versed in the basics of COSHH controls
- Familiar with the layout of MSDS and be able understand and interpret the data supplied
- Ability to write JSA / SOP's based around data supplied in MSDS
- Support the catering manager in provide a safe working environment with the aim of exceeding the required standards of general cleanliness
- Management of 12 Serco FTE's and completion of PDP appraisals
- Supervision of 22 Subcontractor staff
