Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Client is looking for someone to hit the ground running and enhance the team. The Structural Engineer will be assisting the Lead Engineer/Senior Engineer with all aspects of design development. As a result, the main responsibilities will be implementing the project plan and ensuring project deliverables are delivered accurately and on time. The role will include QA work as-well as liaising with consultants, contractors, suppliers, manufacturers and statutory authorities.

Paramount to success within this varied role will include;

Design Development
• Aiding the Lead Engineer/Senior Engineer with all aspects of design development.
• Design development of projects from concept to completion.
• Accountable for all local authority and code compliance.
• Utilising correct design principles i.e. ACI, BS etc.
• Accountable for all the technical detailing of a project.
• Meeting the brief from a functioning and practical perspective.
• Review of all drawing packages before issue.

Documentation
• Ensuring the Draughtsmen’s A3 folder is up to date.
• Create and compile precise and well-ordered calculation documents, suitable for submittal to Third Party reviewers and local authorities.
• Monitor and confirm smooth progress of local authority submissions.

Quality Assurance
• Making sure operational standards are understood, followed and upheld by the Draughtsmen.
• Guaranteeing Draughtsmen meet agreed deadlines for documentation issue.
• Notifying the Lead Engineer/Senior Engineer if slippage is likely to occur and agree a recovery programme.
• Ensuring Draughtsmen correctly prepare the local authority submissions in accordance with the applicable local authority requirements.

Consultant Coordination
• Making sure construction drawings are fully coordinated with other consultants before submissions.

Management
• Obligation for communicating all aspects of project deliverables to Draughtsmen.
• Assist Lead Engineer/Senior Engineer with overall project management.

Resources
• Checking reference material from suppliers is updated and handed to the Librarian.

Planning
• Ensuring the Lead Engineer is updated on progress and programme.

Communication
• Giving constant communication with allocated project teams.
• Filing notes for all informal discussions/meetings.

Post Contract Coordination
• Delivering constant communication with the post contract team and advice on site related issues.
• Review and advise on specialist sub-contractors design and shop drawings.
• Liaising with post contract team to ensure any alterations or amendments on site are as per local authority regulations.
• Ensuring issuance of relevant ‘For Construction’ drawings and documents at the appropriate time to the site team and Contractor.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, BEng or MEng, from a reputable university.
• Minimum 2-4 years of relevant experience in the structural design and detailing of building structures.
• Knowledge of US design codes is essential, familiarity of other design codes e.g. British Standards will be considered an advantage.
• Proficient in the use of spreadsheets and design software (ETABS, SAP, SAFE, STAAD, etc.).
• Good command of spoken and written English.
• Gulf experience is preferable but not essential
