Job purpose
To monitor and troubleshoot system errors, making sure the integrity and performance of the control systems at the plant and terminals are maintained at a high level of readiness. Furthermore, coordinate and liaise with maintenance disciplines to enhance the systems based on performance and operational requirements to ensure satisfaction and business continuity. The responsibility of the control system analyst covers the facilities at ADNOC Distribution Fuel Storage Terminals and Depots, LPG plants, fleet, military depots, aviation, plant equipment and assets, service stations, and depots in all regions in the United Arab Emirates including Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, DAF, and NE. This includes 12 depots and plants, and more than 540 service stations.
Key accountabilities
- Maintain the availability of plant automation systems on multiple platforms, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS), through regular checks and periodic monitoring to ensure plant availability and readiness.
- Decipher process requirements through regular meetings and analyze complex system development, modification, or enhancement issues, ensuring communication with relevant stakeholders to take appropriate action in a timely manner.
- Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional associations regularly to guarantee top-quality servicing and monitoring.
- Participate with vendors and other team members to troubleshoot, diagnose, modify, and repair automation and network hardware, software, and communications problems, and prepare upgrade and replacement plans.
- Develop and maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, monitoring reports, logs, and files. Consolidate project documentation and software for future reference.
- Schedule visits at least once a week to prepare system and network performance and end-user requirements reports for the team leader to take appropriate action when needed.
- Analyze any threats related to cybersecurity and safety system implementation gaps and provide a gap analysis report.
Knowledge transfer
- Train end users to make effective use of process automation systems and respond to work orders, inquiries, and requests from other departments regarding process automation and controls, plant information, and peripheral equipment.
- Support the development of training programs to ensure users understand system functionality and can operate it through easy-to-grasp and straightforward training.
- Meet regularly with end users to gather feedback on the systems and ensure their requirements are translated into realistic steps to enhance their experience.
- Provide training support for UAE nationals as part of the emiratization process.
Maintenance
- Coordinate and participate in maintaining and enhancing process automation and network functionality based on requirements and feedback, aiming to improve the systems.
- Assist as needed with maintenance of network communications, network cable repairs, and configuration problems.
- Prepare spare parts, backups, and system upgrade plans as required, ensuring proper installation and activation per requirements.
- Support maintenance in the upkeep of auxiliary automation systems related to tank gauging, air compressors, cathodic protection, flow metering, and fire alarm panels.
- Propose, develop, and implement management of change (MOC) when required.

- Train and develop assigned staff on relevant skills to enable proficiency on the job and delivery of section objectives.

- Provide input for preparation of department and section budgets and assist in implementing approved budgets and work plans to deliver section objectives.
- Investigate and highlight any significant variances to support effective performance and cost control.
Policies, systems, processes, and procedures
- Implement approved department and section policies, processes, systems, standards, and procedures to support execution of work programs in line with company and international standards.
- Comply with all applicable legislation and legal regulations.
Performance management
- Contribute to the achievement of approved performance objectives for the department and section in line with the company performance framework.
Innovation and continuous improvement
- Design and implement new tools and techniques to improve the quality and efficiency of operational processes.
- Identify improvements in internal processes against best practices in pursuit of greater efficiency in line with ISO standards to define intelligent solutions for issues confronting the function.
Health, safety, environment (HSE), and sustainability
- Comply with relevant HSE policies, procedures, controls, applicable legislation, and sustainability guidelines in line with international standards, best practices, and ADNOC code of practices.
- Participate in emergency response duties as a team member.
Qualifications, experience, knowledge, and skills
- Bachelor's degree in electronics, computer information systems, engineering, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in implementation, support, and maintenance of process automation and controls in the oil and gas sector, preferably within both midstream and downstream.
- Experience working with one or more of the following systems: Honeywell and EMERSON DCS, Rockwell, B&R, and Siemens PLC systems.
