Job overview
Hartland International School seeks to appoint an exceptional teacher of physics to support our expansion and provision across this phase of the school.
Our school
As we enter our tenth year, Hartland has established a reputation for excellence in learning, teaching and leadership in the region. Our student body consists of just over 2100 students from over 110 nationalities, making Hartland a truly unique and international community where a strong blend of academic challenge, enrichment opportunities and pastoral support for all, targets and inspires excellence. All that we do is underpinned by a values-based family community of teachers, children and parents providing the best possible education for every child in our care.
The post
Due to our expansion and growth in the secondary phase of the school, applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals who are passionate and forward thinking and who will thrive in the vibrant learning environment of Hartland. By being ambitious, not only for students but for yourself, you will help us build and maintain a successful programme of study in science by sharing in the responsibility for teaching, learning, enrichment and pastoral care. The successful candidate will also be expected to make a contribution to our unique and strong enrichment programme which ensures that learning and opportunity are diverse for all.
Science is taught at all key stages: Years 7 to 9 follow a course based on the science national curriculum using materials adapted for each pupil. At GCSE students follow the AQA Combined Science Trilogy specification or can opt to study separate sciences in biology, chemistry and physics, again with AQA. All three science subjects are offered at A level, again following the AQA specification. The science department had great success last year with 97% of students achieving above a grade 4 across all three sciences.
All science lessons are taught in purpose-built laboratories in a suite of 8 labs supported by three preparation rooms and two full-time science technicians.
As a department and a school, we believe that students’ learning does not just occur in a classroom and feel students benefit immensely from outdoor and extra-curricular education. We offer a variety of trips throughout the year, including studying the motion and forces of rollercoasters, learning how animals interact in a natural habitat, and visiting the sustainable communities of Dubai. We also offer a range of in-house extra-curricular science clubs from primary all the way through to secondary, where students of all ages get to experience the wonders of science experiments first hand.
The successful candidate will:
- Hold a relevant degree and teaching qualification
- Have experience of teaching physics at GCSE level and A level specifically
- Have a minimum three years teaching experience
- Have exceptional communication skills
- Be committed to the Hartland values
In return you will have the opportunity to work in a premium state-of-the-art modern school with a committed and dedicated staff. We have a pro-active approach to continuing professional, personal development and wellbeing, and the successful candidate will join a school where our values and our community are integral to our ethos. You will receive a competitive and attractive tax-free salary, high quality fully furnished accommodation, private medical insurance, annual airfare to home country and an end of service gratuity.
Policies for safer recruitment are aligned with the recommendations of the International Task Force on Child Protection. At Hartland International School we hold ourselves to a high standard of effective practices in relation to child protection and we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We expect all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment. Successful applicants will be subject to various background checks including receipt of satisfactory references, proof of relevant qualifications, identification and police checks, including overseas checks.
The school is also committed to equality of opportunity and to the culture and principles of equity, diversity and inclusion.
