Areas of responsibility and key tasks

Planning, preparation, teaching and lesson management

  • Foster an environment conducive to outstanding learning and teaching
  • Prepare departmental schemes of learning aligned to topic rotations
  • Plan lessons with clear start/end, engaging AfL strategies, and defined objectives
  • Set challenging tasks with high expectations and clear targets based on prior attainment
  • Identify SEN and high-ability students
  • Maintain structured lessons with pace, motivation, and challenge
  • Use assessment and performance data to inform differentiated planning
  • Maximize effective teaching and class time
  • Promote a productive learning environment with high standards of punctuality, behaviour, and homework
  • Use varied methods: structure content, appropriate vocabulary, effective questioning, addressing misconceptions
  • Use resources and learning technologies to develop study skills
  • Support students in consolidating subject knowledge and skills
  • Reflect critically on teaching effectiveness
  • Use classroom support efficiently

Monitoring, assessment, recording, reporting

  • Evaluate learning outcomes to improve teaching
  • Upload data to departmental trackers promptly
  • Mark and monitor work, setting progress targets
  • Prepare assessments based on allocated schemes
  • Use performance data to plan and ensure progress
  • Systematically assess and record student progress, identifying strengths and areas for development
  • Maintain communication with parents of underperforming students
  • Conduct assessments as required by exams or internal policies
  • Present clear, informative reports to parents

Curriculum development

  • Contribute to subject/academy initiatives with clear targets and success criteria
  • Support the academy's vision and improvement plans

  • Maintain subject knowledge for effective teaching

Minimum qualifications

Bachelor's degree in education or other relevant field with a teaching qualification.

Minimum experience

Minimum of 2 years' experience in teaching physics, biology, or chemistry up to GCSE and A Level desirable but not essential.

  • Previous experience working with students for whom English is not their first language
