Role overview

As a Technical / Design Manager - Geotechnical, you will be responsible for leading and managing the design process through the project lifecycle. Work closely with our clients, design consultants and other stakeholders to ensure the projectu2019s objectives are met in line with our client requirements and expectations.

You will assist the Programme Director / Design Director or Senior Project Manager in ensuring that our scope of works is delivered to AtkinsRu00e9alu00eds and clientu2019s expectations.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the geotechnical design team.
  • Develop and review geotechnical designs, reports, and specifications.
  • Conduct site investigations and analyze soil, rock, and groundwater conditions.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate geotechnical solutions into the overall project design.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the construction team during project execution.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources related to geotechnical activities.
  • Prepare and present technical reports and documentation to clients and regulatory bodies.
  • Identify and mitigate geotechnical risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate with environmental consultants to assess and manage environmental impacts related to geotechnical activities.
  • Develop and implement innovative geotechnical solutions to optimize project performance and cost-efficiency.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of geotechnical systems and structures during construction and post-construction phases.
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops for team members to enhance their geotechnical knowledge and skills.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide expert advice on geotechnical matters.
  • Ensure proper documentation and archiving of all geotechnical data and reports.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in geotechnical engineering and incorporate best practices into project designs.

Requirements

  • Bacheloru2019s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field (Masteru2019s degree preferred).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with a focus on built environment projects in UAE.
  • Strong knowledge of geotechnical principles, soil mechanics, and foundation engineering.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical software and tools (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudio, SLOPE/W).
  • Excellent project management and leadership skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Experience with large-scale construction projects is a plus.

Preferred qualifications

  • Masteru2019s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field.
  • Familiarity with advanced geotechnical testing methods and equipment.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and sustainability practices in geotechnical engineering.
  • Experience in managing geotechnical aspects of projects in diverse geographical locations.
  • Publications or research in geotechnical engineering.
  • Membership in professional organizations such as ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) or ISSMGE (International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering).
  • Proficiency in additional geotechnical software tools and modeling techniques.
  • Strong networking skills and ability to build relationships with industry experts and stakeholders.

Additional qualifications

  • 10-15 years in design manager experience on hospitality projects.
  • Bacheloru2019s or masteru2019s degree in architecture.
  • Experience in LEED would be beneficial.
  • Previous working experience in the region, preferable in Saudi Arabia.
  • Able to work in a team environment and be client facing.
  • Active leadership style.
