What is a Shipbroker?
Shipping is a complex global industry and essential to the world’s economy. Shipbrokers play an important role within the industry, acting as intermediaries who negotiate the rates and terms between shipowners and charterers for the movement of goods around the world, as well as between the buyers and sellers of ships. Successful shipbrokers are industry experts, with strong commercial acumen.
They are entrepreneurial and are good at identifying and developing innovative approaches and ideas. Fundamentally, they are natural networkers and relationship builders who enjoy working with people and collaborating across teams and are committed and work hard to look after their clients and deliver excellent results.

Clarksons Trainee Broker Programme (entry level)
Clarksons Trainee Broker Programme offers you the opportunity to:
• learn about our business by working alongside experienced industry leading professionals
• gain experience, insight and exposure rotating across key shipbroking departments
• help form the foundations of your experience within shipping
• be part of a global cohort, with peer-to-peer support

What you’ll be doing
During the programme, some of what you may be doing includes the opportunity to:
• support the day-to-day activities of the Brokers on the different desks
• maintain databases and prepare market information and reports for clients
• help to manage internal data flow of key market information
• maintain a database of sales activity
• undertake administrative tasks such as dealing with emails, assisting with contracts and correspondence
• help to field queries and establish/maintain effective relationships internally and externally
• maintain accurate records and documentation and assist with producing internal and external reporting
• help to conduct post fixture support in a prompt and efficient manner
• continue to develop knowledge and expertise
• attend meetings and events where required
• additional/ad hoc duties as required to meet the needs of the business

You’ll receive
• an initial 12-month fixed term contract with a possible further one-year extension, which may
include an overseas rotation in one of our global offices
• rotational seat placements across different divisions
• accelerated development of technical, organisational and professional knowledge/skills
• full support system through manager, buddy, and programme manager
• cohort connection to other programme participants globally
• interaction with global colleagues
• assignments and business initiatives

Requirements

Other requirements
• strong numeracy and presentation skills
• highly organised and able to prioritise workload to meet deadlines
• strong attention to detail
• proficiency in working databases and ability to analyse data
• self-starter who seeks opportunities to continually develop, both internally and externally
• confident and able to work well under pressure
• good MS Office skills (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook)
• fluency in a 2nd language (desirable but not essential)
