Scope of the Job

Reporting to: Programme Leader – Production Arts

Works Closely with: Lead Lighting Tutor, Sound Tutor, Video Technician, Production Manager & Technicians

Job Purpose

Alongside the Programme Leader – Production Arts and other colleagues, develop and deliver undergraduate training and assessment in Video Design and Schematics to a world leading industry standard.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Programme Leader – Production Arts at the Academy, the Video Tutor shall execute the following tasks and responsibilities:
• Leadership and training of students on the production arts courses in professional theatre and event video and relevant technologies.
• Contributing to the Academy’s commitment to the continuous raising of standards in the training of students for careers in the arts and entertainment industry, and development of new technologies.
• Maintaining the professional currency of the training in theatre and event video and new technologies through contact with the industry, for both staff development and to maintain a professional currency of the curriculum.

Training and Tuition:
• Developing and teaching a video syllabus for the 1st year, 2nd and 3rd year Bachelor of Arts Production Arts Programme.
• Supervision and guidance of students fulfilling a video role on Academy productions and projects, working with external creatives and the Academy Production Manager and Video Technician.
• Assessment of students fulfilling a video role on Academy productions and projects.

Productions:
• Close liaison with other departments, particularly those relating to production.
• Maintaining and communicating to other departments a schedule of the Production Department’s activities.
• Other related technical duties that may arise as a member of the Production Arts Programme Team.

Finance:
• To manage spending and reconciliation of any budget designated.
• To research and propose any capital expenditure to keep in line with current industry developments.

Health and Safety:
• To engage with relevant Health and Safety training regarding the teaching and delivery of video and its technology.
• To be familiar with and comply with current Health and Safety regulations relevant to the industry.
• To ensure that personnel and students adhere to safe working practices.

Requirements:

Knowledge and Experience

Essential:
• Relevant undergraduate qualification.
• A strong background of working in professional theatre and event video in a producing environment.
• Knowledge of LED screen, projectors and media servers
• Conversant with current and developing theatre video technologies.
• Excellent IT skills including Qlab, Adobe (After Effects, Premier Pro, Photoshop) and Resolume.
• Flexible approach to working and developing the post.
• A determined and efficient individual.

Desirable:
• Experience of teaching and working at HE level.
• Relevant postgraduate qualification.
• Budget Management.
• Basic understanding of Vector works.

Context
Sharjah Performing Arts Academy (SPAA) is an independent Academy established by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, to address a growing demand in the UAE and MENA region for formal education and quality professional training in the performing arts sector. SPAA is the only performing arts conservatoire in the Middle East and North Africa region, offering undergraduate and graduate degree programmes taught in English. The purpose-built Academy includes a 432-seat theatre, two fully equipped studio performance spaces, TV/recording studios, twelve sprung rehearsal studios, 12 singing tutorial spaces, resource library, gymnasium and cafe.

Sharjah Performing Arts Academy specialises in training graduates for work in the international professional performing arts industry. The SPAA faculty are highly experienced practitioners within their respective fields. The focus of the Academy is practical rather than academic. The Academy's primary goal is to equip graduates with the highest level of practical skills in their field, along with the tools necessary for successfully creating their own work or practice.

Salaries and Benefits
Salaries in the UAE are tax-free and disbursed monthly in United Arab Emirates dirhams. Faculty members receive a competitive benefits package that includes: accommodation, private medical insurance, and a residency visa, which extends to cover dependent family members. The Academy will cover the cost of education expenses for eligible dependent children under the age of 18.

Employees and eligible dependents are entitled to an annual return ticket to their home country.
