Visiting Assistant Professor in Architecture & Urban Planning

The College of Engineering (CoE) grew rapidly in the number of programs offered, number of faculty, and number of students. Today, the College has become the largest engineering college in the country with over 2,700 students served by over 56 full-time faculty, 10 adjunct faculty, 16 full-time teaching and lab assistants, and 6 staff members.

The CoE Department of Architecture and Design at ADU invites applications for a Visiting Faculty member in Architecture & Urban Planning, to begin in Fall 2019. We seek an academic with the vision and skills to lead and contribute in both Architecture and Urban Planning. Along with strong design skills, we seek candidates whose work addresses and reflects upon pressing urban design issues in the studio. A Ph.D in Architecture/Urban Planning is required, as well as at least 5 years of teaching experience.

Faculty members teach 12 Credit hours each semester and are expected to contribute to research, student advising, departmental committees, and may be involved in teaching and research in interdisciplinary programs (Architecture/Urban Planning). Teaching duties include developing and offering studio classes in Architecture/Urban Design, Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture from introductory to advanced levels, including technical courses related to the successful candidate's expertise and interests. Candidates must be fluent in English and well acquainted with the current academic debates and issues related to Urban Design, Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning.

Requirements

Qualifications and Requirements:

- Ph.D in Architecture/Urban Planning from a reputable International University.
- A notable record of achievement in higher education and scholarship.
- Successful university teaching career in under graduate and graduate level relevant to the academic rank.
- Strong research record and potential for publication.
- Experience in working with people from different ethnic backgrounds.
- Good communication skills, familiarity with the new teaching media, and visual communication mediums of instruction.
