Job description / Role
JOB PURPOSE
- The jobholder is responsible to provide with engineering expertise and knowledge in the field of Welding to support the welding, brazing, cutting and materials joining activities in Borouge Plants and Projects, while monitoring, reviewing the same activities to ensure adherence to the appropriate contract documents, codes, and other standards to produce a satisfactory product The jobholder is responsible to provide with engineering expertise and knowledge in Metallurgy to solve various issues related to the metallic materials and welding in production plant and equipment, participating in defining the technical requirements, technical bid evaluation and inspection of welding materials on receipt to ensure specifications and required quality, developing Borouge's competence and standards in line with ADNOC Group of Companies' competence within the area of expertise as part of the Technical Authority framework
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Welding Standards:
- Provide technical expertise and ensure update of all Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) in accordance with the latest Company Standards / International Relevant Codes/Standards/Practices.
- Recommend and endorse Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and monitor reliability for severe service of all qualified WPS.
- Participate in the pre-qualification of the manufacturer and fabricators to provide advice and facilitate selection of qualified manufacturers/ contractors.
- Liaise with Laboratory for materials testing, failure analysis of plants and equipment / components to recommend remedial actions. J
Internal Welding Support:
- Provide recommendations on materials and metallurgical repair or replacement techniques, during scheduled/unscheduled shutdowns and overhauls.
- Provide technical support in welding matters during project execution, supervise and follow-up implementation of recommendations and troubleshooting of welding & metallurgical issues as needed.
- Participate in incidents / accidents investigations, near miss reports etc. and recommends remedial measures to avoid re-occurrence.
Welding Qualification:
- Conduct tests for Welder, Welding Operator, Tack Welder Qualification" to ensure that all Welders engaged in every Project, are duly qualified and certified.
- Maintain database for all welders and control "Welder Qualification Records and Identification Number" of welders to ensure compliance and proper record tracking.
- Carry out periodical welding Audit of approved fabrication contractors and in-house fabrication shop and participate in the assessment of Welding Inspection personnel to evaluate performance and quality of work. Metallurgy
- Provide technical expertise in metallurgy to solve various issues related to the metallic materials in production plant and equipment. Participate in defining the technical requirements, technical bid evaluation and inspection of materials on receipt to ensure specifications and required quality.
- Develop & maintain Borouge's, owners' & other ADNOC Group of Companies' competence within the area of expertise as part of the Technical Authority framework
- Deliver technical discipline expertise across the whole company, with high focus on design & technical integrity "must haves"
- Provide expert advice & guidance during asset improvement & expansion projects, turnarounds, incident investigations, technical & process reviews, internal & external audits, etc., in order to solve & prevent problems, by identifying gaps & timely mitigating identified hazards and risks
- Manage the technical approval & deviation control process & support other Borouge functions in the management of technical change as per the ADNOC's "best in class" practice
- Participate in the setup of design, procurement, operating, inspection & maintenance strategies, philosophies & management systems, in line with the pillars of asset integrity & total cost of ownership
- Own, safeguard & translate design specifications & performance standards into acceptance criteria for critical safety equipment Monitor, evaluate & recommend trends, developments & best practices within the surrounding industry, in order to add value to Borouge's business by disseminating the latest technical knowledge
- Set up & maintain external OEM & vendor networks & participate in Borealis' & other ADNOC Group of Companies' technical platforms, in order to share experience of technical problems & solutions within Borouge
- Support the supplier classification, evaluation & rating process & provide the necessary guidance in equipment selection
- Act as internal trainer & provide mentorship & guidance to newly graduated engineers.
Requirements:
- University degree in Related Science or Engineering Disciplines.
- Graduation degree or equivalent technical or science discipline qualifications in Engineering (Mechanical, Petrochemical, Chemical)
- AWS/API certification like API 510/570 , CWI are desirable
- Familiarity of International Codes and Standards related to fabrication and inspection of pressure vessels, piping, heat exchangers, storage tanks etc.
- Familiarity to Engineering Drawings, Manuals, and Symbols.
- Fluency in English Language; written and oral Minimum Experience & Knowledge & Skills
- Minimum 7 - 10 years' work experience in this Welding / Metallurgy and related fields.
- Experience in a welding and relevant experience within the oil and gas production industry
- Proven record in performing inspection for Pressure Vessels, Tanks, Piping, Boilers, Furnaces, Flares and Stacks.
- Recognized Technical Authority & coach within the own area of expertise
- Good knowledge of relevant international standards & project management tools
- Well-developed interpersonal, organizational, analytical, team- & networking skills
- Exposure to work as CSWIP 3.2 Senior Welding Inspector...
- Hands on technical reporting; checklist, SAP entries, sampling, reports, forms, template or procedures.
- Advanced level of attention to details. Structured and self-organized.
