Wet Utilities Design Director

Job description / Role

We seek a highly experienced and visionary Wet Utilities Design Director to lead and oversee the planning, design, and delivery of complex wet utilities infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and a proven ability to manage large, multidisciplinary teams across a range of water infrastructure programs.

As a key member of the senior management team, you will drive excellence in design standards, client engagement, and strategic project execution for water supply, wastewater, stormwater, and irrigation networks.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design and technical direction of wet utility systems (potable water, wastewater, stormwater, irrigation).
• Oversee and review design work to ensure quality, compliance with regulations, and alignment with client requirements.
• Provide strategic leadership and mentorship to internal design teams and external consultants.
• Collaborate with project directors, planners, and other engineering leads to ensure integrated infrastructure solutions.
• Interface with clients, regulatory authorities, and stakeholders to manage approvals, submissions, and progress.
• Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources to deliver projects efficiently and profitably.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and sustainable design practices in water infrastructure.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Minimum of 15 years of experience in wet utilities design, with at least 5 years in a leadership/director-level role.
• Proven track record in delivering major wet infrastructure projects in urban or regional development.
• Strong knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and local authority regulations.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Chartered Engineer status or equivalent professional accreditation is preferred.
