Course summary:

MA Dramatic Writing offers training and support for creative adventure and personal development.

Since the course started, it has regularly engaged with industry professionals and visiting experts who work across a range of forms and contexts for dramatic writing. The course is focused on the craft and technical aspects of dramatic writing and seeks to develop the unique vision and voice of each individual student.

MA Dramatic Writing explores script writing and dramatic form with relevance across theatre, radio, film, television and digital media. Our aim is to help the next generation of writing talent and equip students with the confidence and self-awareness they will need to survive and thrive in industry.

This course was revalidated in 2016/17.

This course is part of the Drama and Performance Programme.

Course details:

The course explores the theory and practice of dramatic writing for performance and production across theatre, film, television, radio and digital media & writing that is character driven, and engages an audience in narrative storytelling, though not exclusively. Whilst acknowledging the key syntheses and divergences across the contrasting terrains of dramatic storytelling the course promotes innovation. MA Dramatic Writing examines and explores the art and craft of writing scripts through the prism of an intensely competitive UK and global industry. Students are encouraged to value their independent identity as critically alert creative authors. They will produce a portfolio of diverse writing to showcase their talents to the profession. MA Dramatic Writing graduates will be equipped to work with creativity and focus in a range of contexts.
